The old flag was not readopted after WWI because of a wish to distance ourselves from communism which was brewing nearby in addition for it being a terrible flag for what its purpose is. One of the reasons behind flags is to make an easy association for patriotism, something children can easily copy to instill a sense of belonging in them, that flag would be impossible to copy. It is the same as the Welsh flag, it might look sort of nice, but good luck trying to get kids to copy it and not make it look like a red dildo with wings.

Hitler wanted to conquer the shit out of Switzerland in WW2 because we kept jews from them (if the jews paid enough of course) but he decided against it because they knew it wouldn't be worth it. We'd have blown up all our tunnels and retreated into mountain fortresses, abandoning all major cities completely just to fuck up Nazis all day. You can't really wage actual war against someone sitting in dorf forts in the mountains shooting out of them.
To be fair though it also has to do with Switzerland being strategically almost worthless, on a global geographical scale. We don't have access to the sea and we aren't in the way of anything important.
