I know 3 of my 4 grandparent's names. Never met my paternal grandmother because she was an alcoholic and Dad never wanted me to meet her.
As for my great grandparents, I don't know much about them. My family are uncultured fucking swines and never told me anything about my ancestry, probably because they didn't know themselves. All I know is that one of my great grandmothers was from the Scottish Highlands, and lived till over 100.

Paternal grandfather was American and served in the US navy during World War 2. He was an engineer on ships. I believe he was in the Pacific theater primarily. After the war he was still active for a time and then became involved in insurance. I learned recently that he believed strongly in campaign finance reform/getting big money out of politics.
Paternal grandmother came from Germany and immigrated before things got too bad. She was a travel agent.
Maternal grandmother's history is sketchy but her father abandoned her family and started a new one in italy iirc. They were from Germany but traveled to Switzerland during WW2. Later she emigrated to the Dominican Republic and owned a nursery school.
Maternal grandfather's history is the most complicated of all and one time he dictated it for me to type up. too long to explain here, but he also ended up immigrating to the DR and owning a ranch and several other businesses. His life was incredibly epic as he fled all over Europe to avoid the Nazis, was in prison and in various work camps near the france/spain border. He managed to elude concentration camps though some of his relatives did not.
Maternal great grandfather was evidently some kind of socialist rabble rouser. dunno much more than that.

Depends where you go. Its more of a shithole as in South of the US is or the North of England. Its not bad, but in comparison to the other areas its not as good. Naples was just poor up to Italian unification - as in it still had peasants while the north was developing factories and industry. When united the Italian government just favoured the north due to that was were the wealth was. Its pretty much caught up now in terms of development but its still a poorer area in terms of industry.

He later went back and got a rather large inheritance from his father's estate.
