A lot of people who self med either give themselves the wrong dosage or are unable to afford to keep paying for it consistently and there hormones are constantly fluctuating. As someone WITH BIID I can kinda vouch for the feelings this woman went through, with her wanting to be blind. To put it into perspective my BIID affects my lower left leg, to which I wish it to be removed in a very certain place so I would have a below the knee amputation. BIID is a condition, it isnt anyone faking it for benefits or for sympathy of them being disabled, it's a neurological condition that affects your brain. Because their brain's body map still THINKS their limb is there even tho it isn't. Well with BIID in that body map, there is no limb at all. Which is why people want to maim themselves to become amputees or disabled, because to them, in their brain, that limb is not a part of them and should not be there. It was never supposed to be there and it is and it's wrong so it has to be removed.
This is a very real condition, people like her and myself have a neurological disorder. We aren't faking it. It would be nice if people researched the condition though!
