They could want privacy for any reason at all. When I played runescape or talked with a friend on msn messanger I would alttab if my parents walked into my room. I just didnt want my parents to be monitoring what I was doing with my friends.

Once my oldest came to me to tell me she had accidentally watched a video and they said a swear word so she switched it off, keeping in mind she doesn't know I check her history she had nothing to gain by telling me this, I just said ok good, find one that doesn't swear and is nice.
You don't have to watch their every move, you have to trust kids within reason, the history check is for my own peace of mind, after 3 years of them having their own tablets I am yet to be disappointed, aside from some of the shit they watch on youtube which is more than annoying (stampycat).
