What makes Dubai so different form the rest of the Arab world?
>>
They have petrol and the support of the US and Israel
>>
>>69829138
Too small to have multiple tribes.
>>
Its secular and caters to white businessmen.
>>
>>69829223

It's beautiful how in as short as 100 years it literally went from a desert with a bunch of mud huts to one of the richest metropolises on the earth.
>>
>>69829138
It has a shitton of money pumped into it.

It won't last long though. Dubai's funding is slowly drying up and its foundations are literally unstable. Once it gets abandoned it will get swallowed up by sandstorms and become a forgotten land
>>
>>69829138

They are moderate Islam. Only one person participates in beheadings while a smaller crowd watches
>>
>>69829138
Are you retard?
Oil money and money laundry
>>
>>69829544

Not until their oil runs out, but yeah they suck at investing so once the oil's gone they'll be broke.
>>
>>69829138
Why would anyone travel to it when you have options like Europe, Asia and America that are way better?

Seriously I don't find it attractive at all.
>>
>>69829138
there tallest building does not have affective plumbing
>>
>>69829223
They have no petrol. The UAE has some oil and gas. Dubai, not so much.
>>
>>69829769

Also see: >>69829544
Dubai was built on banking and money-laundering. As well as slave labour.
>>
They pay non-arabs to pay their shit for them
>>
>>69830015
This, they have to have all their shit carried out in trucke
>>
>>69830234

build their shit*
>>
>>69830277
Classic Arabic mentality. Build palaces, don't worry about the plumbing.

Poo in the Loos and Arabs are great at building giant megastructures and neglecting vital infrastructure.
>>
>>69829138

just a bunch of debt, they are still bedouin goat herders.

>Imam an-Nawawi (d.1278 CE) (in his interpretation of Sahih Muslim) >mentions:

>The people of badia (the desert Bedouins) and their like are people of need >and poverty. (A time will come) when the world will be laid open for them >until they compete with one another in (the construction of) buildings, and >Allah knows best.
>>
>>69829938
You wouldn't believe how many people actually consider Dubai a dream destination because of the beaches, good gastronomy and entertainment. Europeans go there because it has less retarded folk like partybros and hoes, and disgusting all-inclusive families from ones own country running around than Spain, Greece or Turkey. It's more expensive but not too expensive.
>>
>>69830488
It's a meme-tier city which has capitalized on massive economic and financial growth.

It will be ruins at some point in the future.
>>
>>69829138
unlike most arab states, they actually tried to diversify their economy instead of just coasting off oil revenues. when the middle east started heating up around 2001, they started building hard and promoting themselves as a stable middle east country to do business in; it's worked reasonably well.
>>
>>69830389

They're not building those structures, Western trained people are.
>>
>>69829138
I stayed at the Armani hotel inside the Burj for 3 nights. Classy. As. Fuck.
>>
>>69830643
If by "business" you mean global banking and money laundering, yes.

They were basically accepting Russians with briefcases full of cash prior to '06. Trading dirty money for property investment.
>>
>>69829138
Western influences.
>>
>>69830615
I wasn't talking about myself, though. I'd never spend my precious vacation in any muslim country,
>>
Dubai is fucking awesome. Best city in the world to travel to.
>>
>>69830691
Indians literally built Dubai.
>>
>>69829138
Nothing.

Dubai is a real-estate and tourism bubble that relies on handouts from Abu Dhabi and oil money, just like every mid-east state. The only difference is that Dubai is shinier.
>>
You think Dubai is the only place in the Middle East that is filled with modern skyscrapers?

Doha in Qatar, Kuwait City, Abu Dhabi or Bahrain are similar
>>
>>69830691
No lad, you don't understand. Western contractors, architects etc. win the contracts and build them to the specs of wealthy Arab owners.

Trying to get Arabs to invest (price tag wise) in anything beyond "Muh palace looks good" is absolutely futile. Dubai is a colossal vanity project for the Sheik and his children.

>>
>>69829544
I lived there in 07-08, right before the crash. Can confirm. Western engineers all over the city were shaking their damn heads to be quite honest- building boom was insane and the Sheiks weren't willing to let the concrete set properly, etc. Plus they used labor that wore flip flops to construction sites and often went unpaid for months.

Enjoy living in the bullshit capital of the world, my friend.

Try not to get roped into spending too much skydiving, jetskiing, or hanging out in luxury hotels.

Dubai is literally Disney World in city form and everyone who lives there ends up plowing their earnings back into living the YOLO Plebbit life.

I can't wait for when that giant tower they built catches on fire and falls over.

They just had a major fire last week IIRC. Huge condo tower went up in flames.

protip: migrant workers are indebted to their employers, their passports held, they're not paid enough to get out of indebtedness, labor organizing is severely and violently repressed

It won't last longer than 40 years m80. What rises into the stratosphere in a short space of time, comes down equally quickly.

>>69832121
The cost of food is high. Water too. Entertainment is rife.

Honestly the biggest problem is the expat culture. You are forced to spend spend spend on living it up in most social circles.

If you can avoid that shit and make bank, more power to you anon.

>>69832283
Reliant on banking. Reliant on tourism. Reliant on international capital flows. Reliant on global trade.

Yeah sorry Bangladesh, I with international freight at all time lows, and with durka tribes on their borders I don't see much of a future.
>>69832496
Implying people in London and Paris aren't on the verge of revolt. That property will be forcefully seized, or collapse 60% in value due to blood in the streets.
>>
>>69832121
Haven't been in years, but in 07-08 you could find cheap meals, etc. There was a Russian district that was pretty fun, in an insanely reality blurring way: All signs in Russian, all Russian/Uzbek hookers, weird hotel discos, and thirsty pajeets crushing overpriced Johnnie Walker and bothering said hookers.

Britbro is dead on about ex-pat culture, especially the English. Cool people generally, but holy fuck the money goes quickly if you aren't careful. Best advice- get into a few sports that don't cost much and do your socializing that way.
>>
>>69832656
I'll be working with 4 other people from my company who have apparently been there for a few years. I'm fine with hitting up clubs with other Westerners I just don't want to end up blowing my salary out of boredom. Good thing it's only 5-6 months.

>>69832667
I'll try and check it out, sounds like a fun place to stumble around while drunk assuming I'm not going to get robbed.

Once the oil dries up they'll be back to being nomadic goat herders within a few years. Muzzies, like niggers, are not intellectually capable of creating wealth.

oil money

I can't wait for the oil fields to eventually start drying up and watch the entire place implode.

the big thing that they are doing is cornering the market on trans-continental air travel. Dubai is the biggest air hub between Europe, Africa, and Asia. Their airline industry is kicking ass.

This thread makes me wanna play Spec Ops: the Line.

What a great game that was.

First time I played that game I thought I saw the real ending. Then when I replayed it a second time (on the hardest difficulty for maximum immersion and story suspense, ofc) I realized that I actually DIDN'T get the real ending. And that there was a completely new chapter after the chapter I thought was the end. Once I got this alternative ending I realized how great this game was. This alternative ending is one of the most red pilled things in story telling PERIOD. It itself also has divergent endings, but regardless of which ending you choose, that final prologue chapter's message is the same, and it truly makes the entire game stand out from the rest of the war games.

It really is one big slap in the face for people who believe in Call of Duty heroes.

Fuckin amazing game. Tight gameplay too.

It's all real-estate and tourism financed by oil money from Abu Dhabi. Every time either of those things become unstable (tourism post 2001, real estate post 2008), the city's finances collapse and need bailouts.
