So wait, this is the Enhanced Edition, right? This is what I have come to expect in spite of what people say. When older game developers are directly compared to new ones, it's obvious that things have changed completely, but you don't usually see it spelled out so clearly. This is a remake so you can plainly see which parts have been Frankensteined in by modern faggots, but all this is just part of the modern industry. All new games are made by these people, but without the comparison you don't notice it.

The combat isn't awful at all actually, it's just a meme enforced by the sheep who regurgirate the same shit without thinking. Planescape's combat is a lot less tedious than BG's and there's very little of it and you can avoid almost all of it as a Thief (literally all of it if you stock up on rat tails).
It's just that most kids who play it seem to think that it's some "visual novel" and hence they don't have to use brainthink in the combat and pick the right spells and use the right weapons like they should in BG / Icewind Dale games.
I'm guessing it ultimately goes to the fact that since TNO's immortal, no guides really touched on the combat section in particular / there's no spoonfeeding guide telling them what spells to pick and when to cast them etc.
Also, the reason PST is one of the best RPGs ever made is not the story (although it's good) it's the impressive quality of choices & consequences. Again, something that the dumb sheep and ignorant (socjus type) sheep will never understand.
