Also see the OSHA permissible levels for formaldehyde. You can work in an area where there's enough formaldehyde in the air that you can smell it, day in and day out in every breath you take, and it can be still considered safe. So while they say "the likeliness of cancer from formaldehyde is 15x higher due to 15x as much formaldehyde" this would not mean the likeliness of cancer overall is 15x higher with e-cigs vs regular cigs even under those conditions as the link between formaldehyde and cancer is not even that well-established, and it's mostly nasal-laryngeal cancers and leukemia and not lung cancer which is what cigarettes are known for due to tar. Formaldehyde is not what causes people who smoke cigarettes to get cancer, it's the tar.

No. You could say the same thing about anything. A thing that seems to have little effect on the body in moderation or over short periods might have different effects over time. It's not simple to predict, it's impossible to predict. You vape test rabbits are how we are going to find out.
It's like with smoking. The damaging effects are very subtle. It's not like you smoke a cigarette and bam you have emphysema and cancer. It takes years and years and even then it's a some get issues some don't kind of thing. 50 years ago it was common that top athletes smoked, and these guys would have lung capacities that were better than normal non smokers today.
Again, understand that I'm not saying smoking is healthy, but it's an insidious thing, where it's damaging long term effects can only be determined by statistics. No one can say this guy x will get y because he smokes.

My point was more like this: it took us several decades (if not nearly a century) of statistics on something a large demographic was doing, to show that smoking has potential for harm. And this was a thing that is pretty much second nature to us in an evolutionary sense (carried to an extreme, true) ... that is inhaling the smoke from burning plant matter.
No one knows yet what the long term effects of inhaling vaporized propylene glycol in large quantities is. Comparing it to inhaling water vapor like vapers like to do is a fallacy. And we won't know before we've been able to observe a lot of people doing it over a long time. And to be honest most vapers will have lots of other things in their juice too, complicating this issue further.
At this point we have observed that nothing much seems to be happening to the body when it's done in a one off lab type scenario. But that is true with a lot of other things we know are harmful too. It's a reason why no serious health authority will give their stamp of approval to vaping. It's because of this; it's a new thing and we don't know yet.
Basically, if you use it to stop smoking and actually stop, then it's a good thing. The people who defend it as a permanent habit are in uncharted waters.
