Idiots and white supremacists can win the Republican nomination but there aren't enough of those in the general election to carry it. And even then he can only get a plurality, not a majority, of the Republican voters.
The problem is the GOP has built their platform up around dumb shit like xenophobia and science-denialism, to the point that nobody can win the nomination without appealing to that. But you can't win the general on that platform.
It sucks because Hillary is awful and she's pandering to feminism so much that a lot of male liberals are ready to jump ship (she's really struggling with the male vote in the primaries), but Trump is too divisive, too hateful, and too fucking stupid to gain much support. Romney or McCain would stomp Hillary in a general, but I think Trump will lose.
