Sure would be great if I believed that. I had a good job at the hospital. I'm introverted, but I get out and do things. I have friends and a social network, but it's either full of dedicated couples or guys in the same boat as me (or worse).
I go to political events, take trips to DC just for fun, through work I'm involved in international outreach related to global health and education.
But through it all I feel increasingly lonely, isolated, and out of practice. My past relationship left me with so many doubts about interaction with women and interpreting their responses that I don't even know where to begin rebuilding my confidence in that regard. It's like a piece of me that's cracked and broken, and it's letting rot in towards the center, like a cavity in a tooth.
I'm not sure how to rebuild myself without patching up this damage first.

That's how I've always been but without any relationship.
It's not just women but society and socializing as a whole I've just always felt since I was a child that I was missing something. On top of that I'm introverted anyway and people misinterpreting that as shyness drove me to actually be shy and develop social anxiety. That contributed to me having very low self-esteem since I always felt that just being myself was undesirable.
My parents took little direct interest in my interests too. Sometimes indulging me but rarely ever participating.
I think women and relationships are just too complicated and stressful in a social sense for me. I don't like and get easily frustrated by ambiguity. I don't even like poetry for that reason. When you want to say something I think you should say it directly and clearly.
