This praise of Carlin on /pol/ of all places kind of pisses me off.
I can only assume that those of you who still call Carlin "the God-King of Comedy" after watching the "rape" clip that was linked to are either 14 years old or seriously hearing-impaired.
Carlin, as far as I can see from this clip was a very typically boring and utterly misguided "fight the powah, maaaan" baby-boomer.
The list of people he seems pissed off at for "trying to tell him what he can and can't say" is a list that John Oliver could probably also subscribe to: "the government" and "the church". He poses and likes to think of himself as a "wild untamable rebellious spirit" but he actually stresses again and again throughout this stand-up that he basically AGREES with all the dogmas of baby-boomer feminism ("men cause wars because of their penises", "men are destroying the planet" etc.) and baby-boomer feminism now, twenty years later, pretty much IS "the government", so so much for his anti-authoritarianism.
As to the whole "rape-joke" bit specifically, listen carefully to what he is saying: he is claiming ONLY the right to make "rape jokes" that tend to disculpate women and inculpate men; for example, jokes that scorn the idea that "women ask for it".
I suppose there may have been some feminists in the 80s who would have objected even to THAT kind of "rape joke", i.e. a joke that actually PUSHED the feminist line on rape. But certainly nowadays any man telling THAT sort of "rape joke" would get a pat on the head from most feminists. I see absolutely NO indication in this video that Carlin, if he had been alive in our age where hundreds of female college students are ruining the lives of male college students by "retroactively withdrawing consent" after drunken one-night stands, would have had the guts or even the political inclination to tell a joke with the message: "hey, you can't go back to a guy's dorm-room with him on a Friday and then say he raped you on a Saturday".

This is an issue, but IMO it's a much bigger issue with gender. I see a lot more of pic-related than I see of that for black people. And at least blacks are actually discriminated against and actually have adversity, so while I may not agree with affirmative action I can at least see how they view it as just balancing out other discrimination.
