I believe but I haven't found a church I feel comfortable being baptized in yet.
I accept that a lot of people need their religious beliefs for comfort and I appreciate the large role Christianity played in developing the western world which has granted me wonderful personal freedoms. That said, I'm just not inclined to hold any supernatural beliefs.

Anyone who claims that Christianity hindered science more than it helped it isn't aware of the huge role it had in the establishment of science as we know it today. True, the catholic church suppressed the views of men like Galileo and Copernicus. I won't deny that or any similar acts of idiocy. However the study of the bible throughout Europe by monks created an international community of people who could read and write, communicating in the same language. People who were free to dedicate a large portion of their lives to reading and study, rather than toiling in the fields. From this community minds like Copernicus, Mendel, Erasmus, Newcomen, William of Ockham and a ton of others. Had Christianity been destroyed by the romans, we would probably still be in the dark ages now.

What I described isn't really an afterlife, but every consecutive time you're genetically reincarnated it's in a more and more ideal world with more knowledge in it, but ideally still retains the knowledge of the old world, so you have the benefit of both. That is, the being has VERY similar (or slightly superior) genetics to you and it has all the knowledge you have plus morr, therefore although it doesn't have your episodic memory, it is in fact you. Again, what's important is your reactions and actions, you are a metaphorical actor and how you play your role is what's important.
So when Jesus said the true believers would be risen in the kingdom of heaven, he wasn't actually kidding. Western culture is an ideal world against the iron aged Roman empire, pacifism and fraternity are considered favourable. It was a self fulfilling prophecy, but at least it came true. All you had to do was teach your kids to be Christian and teach them to teach their kids to be Christian, eventually it'll just become part of the culture without any authoritarian intervention but it wasn't until the 60s did the Catholic church realise it already happened and dialed it back.
This gets even trickier when even your, probably now dead grandparents, are more alike to you than you realise and that's especially true if they taught you everything you know. Partial reincarnation is also a thing, that is you're enough alike to your ancestors that every so often your actions will reflect exactly what they would do in your position.
