The distance is about 1000 miles by road from Drancy to Auschwitz. So I'd say by train it would be even less of a distance given that rails are very often straighter than road routes. So the rail route might be 900 miles long.
A train would have traveled in the 1940's between 80 - 100 miles an hour, sounds faster than expected but it's true that they could do this. Let's say it was a slow train for arguments sake and make it go at 70 miles per hour on average.
That's 12.8 hours by rail from Drancy to Auschwitz.

There was a last effort in 1940 with a plan to relocate them to Madagascar. When the war was in full swing they were transported from the ghettos to labor camps to support the war effort. Thousands died because of epidemics, malnutrition, diseases and mistreatment. At the end of the war many died because the Allies bombed railway tracks and there was a lack of food. There was even a lack of food on the front, if you have to choose between front line soldiers or PoW's and forced laborers then that choice is easily made.
