This is an intellectually lazy argument, because everyone claims that he is the victim and not the aggressor.

Because we are at this stalemate, I think it makes better sense to look at what people do. The actions that they take.
So, even assuming that ISIS is reacting, they are still morally inferior because they specifically target civilians. Similarly, even assuming that liberal ideology is a valid reaction to bigotry and hatred, they are morally deficient because they attack inalienable rights.
I think that's the best way to look at problems such as these. Everyone assumes that they are right. Everyone believes themselves to be justified in their motivation to act. So, then, how does the justified action manifest?
