Evolution follows what survives against the odds, rather than work its way up to a perfect life form. In this case, from the human idea of how we can improve our species it's possible that we could indeed propagate unsavory traits which would negatively affect our advancement as a species.

Homo Sapiens are likely to of been stronger and faster a few thousand years ago going off the distance between footprint samples in clay samples found from this period and the speed they must of been moving.
