In terms of surveillance, it is 1984
In terms of being distracted by technology and arbitrary sex, it's Brave New World.

What it is NOT is black and white. Huxley and Orwell were both correct.
>>
>>69748698

>People taking drugs to stave off depression.
>Sex is only for fun, with reproduction being viewed as disgusting.
>Alphas, Betas, Gammas etc.

I think we are already there.

It's been A Brave New World since the 60's

Huxley himself even said the world had already surpassed his vision

At least with brave new world we'll be "happy" though

Your warning is at least 10 years too late.

nope its to late its already like those books. If there is any hopes people need to keep their arms and use them from time to time.

Brave New World is so much scarier than 1984 because of just how close to reality it is.

>the powers that be make embryos in a lab according to the race that 'should' be in a given area rather than trying to merge everyone into one kind of person
>instead of trying to eliminate differences they create more differences, adding to the beauty of humanity rather than detracting

Seems a superior state of affairs by all means. Ol' Huxley had no idea how much the jews would fuck the world.
>>
>>69750818
They take away the thing that defines humanity. People are not free and are not self-aware
>>
>>69750818
We would be ok if the world was more like the Huxley's "hell". In the end, it's a mix of both: the poverty, misery and chaos of Orwell with the dumbfication and degeneracy of Huxley.
>>
>>69748698
both, but were closer to 1984 than brave new world
>>
>>69751195
You have obviously never read Brave New World
>>
>>69750984
>They take away the thing that defines humanity.

There is no one "thing" that defines humanity, and free will is neither something that demonstrably exists nor something that can be demonstrably taken away.

The nightmares of the past are pleasant compared to how things are and how they will be. My absolute favorite example is Mr. Burns, who at the time was viewed as an evil boss because he makes him work, is mildly catty, and so forth, but a modern evil boss forces you to train your replacement who will be paid one third and then fires you. Mr. Burns was a dream boss by modern standards.
>>
>>69751483
Free will is what makes us Human. If we had no free will would we basically be more intelligent sheep
>>
>>69751375
People are taken care and happy in BNW and the government isn't actively trying to replace its populace. Its definitely like this guy says >>69751124

BNW is overly optimistic because it implies the powers that be would have any consideration for their serfs.

The so called "establishment" doesn't have the regard and respect they had for the omegas (who were rendered extremely dull so that they wouldn't mind dull jobs -- and were GIVEN jobs), nor even the regard and respect a slave owner has for their slave. Afterall, you can say what you want about slavery, but the fact that the slave is a POSSESSION implies the master has the responsibility to take basic care about his possession. The prevailing globalist mindset is instead:

1. Promote the idea that women should get educations, jobs, etc. Thus, instead of one man getting paid enough to support a wife and kids, a man and a woman are put into competition and each paid half as much.
2. Standard of living still too high? Flood every western nation with immigrants, so you can drive it ever lower. Race to the bottom. Wages have stagnated for over a decade... but the cost of living has tripled since the 70s, with regards to wages.
3. Skilled labor STILL a problem? Even after women are going to college as much as men? Just make college free for everyone, thus driving down even the value of SKILLED labor.

A master is responsible for a slave. But the rootless cosmopolitan powers that be view workers as eminently disposable. Use them up until they break, and get new ones, and pay them less. Every generation poorer than the last, every household with fewer children than the last, squeeze and squeeze until nothing that is left.

Even 1984 might be too optimistic, as I recall it to be a dystopia of too-much-work, not the reality (including in China) of the race to the bottom.
>>
>>69751634
>Free will is what makes us Human

Okay. That is your declaration of faith and I must respect that, while I will point out that there's nothing remotely resembling proof it exists. Its also not clear whether free will could be suppressed.

How close do we sit to this?
>>
>>69752369
You realize that The World State in BNW stunts the development of Deltas, Gammas and Epsilons so that they are satisfied with their position in the world. Not to mention the only reason people are happy is that they are high on Soma and deprived the knowledge of freedom. Bernard is mocked because he has a sense of individuality and is threatened with exile if he doesn't conform
>>
>>69753266
dangerously close

>>69753380
>You realize that The World State in BNW stunts the development of Deltas, Gammas and Epsilons so that they are satisfied with their position in the world.

Yes. That shows a lot more compassion than any real world state we're headed towards might have. The real globalists want ambition to keep the peasants scratching at each other for less and less.

>Not to mention the only reason people are happy is that they are high on Soma and deprived the knowledge of freedom

Were that people in real life so grossly spoiled by a kindly and superhumanly competent state that nonsense like inability to obtain self actualization was their greatest worry instead of whole towns falling into destitution as their livelihood is shut down, and the resulting emasculation of no longer being able to have a purpose or provide for your family.
>>
>>69748758
This guy nailed it, FPBP

>Pic related, we're living in a hybrid Huxley-Orwellian Brave New 1984 World
>>
>>69748698
Nope wrong answer, you should be worried about the world going Time Machine style
>>
>>69754033
Consider how fucked Shakespeare's plays were to the people of BNW. The well-described emotions written by Shakespeare and spoken by the savage were apocalyptic to those people.

Huxley was definitely more accurate in regards to the masses. I always felt Winston portrayed what a government worker would experience, but not that of the common prole.

In BNW, the chemical and technological advancements used on the majority of the people is dead accurate to what we're seeing take place today.

That line of thought is exactly why the World State gained power. That somehow living as a lobotomized sheep who is fed and water by his benevolent owner is better than living free and poor.
>>
Society became A Brave New World after Smartphones and social media came out

Now were becoming 1984 with the PC police but hopefully the Donald will put an end to that
>>
>>69754619
yeah it's incredibly accurate and almost two decades older than 1984. Both and also Fahrenheit 451 were pretty accurate predictions overall

as far as the 9gag I have no tips kek
>>
>>69754675

Well yes, BNW's superhumanly competent state that could take care of people would be nice, now wouldn't it be? They just plain MAKE people in their labs and then sleep teach them. The thing that's fancifully optimistic about BNW is the idea that the government would ever have need to MAKE more people. We will never have the means to take care of the people we have. Even CHYNA can't employ all its people.

BNW is a pretty sweet deal compared to real life for a number of reasons, but it boils down to the consideration given the citizens that a real world state would never have. Totalitarian governments are nowhere near competent enough to take care of everybody.

>>69748698
2000 years ago barbarians were getting high on all kinds of herbal shit and taking like ten wives, all while bashing each other in the head with whatever got the job done, yet fags complain about where the world is headed.

pick all the trains.
>>
>>69755474
>>69754675
And lest one think me being too pessimistic (re: not being able to employ everyone), ignoring technology or whatever... well, we'll be lucky if technology lets us break even with jobs.
>>
>>69748985
>>69748900
So:

>Both right about books
>Both right about information
>Both right about media
>Huxley's vision on culture seems more accurate
>Huxley's vision on control seems more accurate as well
>>
>>69756256
Its funny how pessimists try to repaint the modern world as a less informed one, when your average peasant with an ipad has access to more information faster than Clinton did when he was POTUS; not to mention, the tendency of old information sources being strictly hierarchical and non interactive, where a book or newscaster presents just one perspective. The anti establishment movement could never have happened without the internet.
>>
>>69756646
Yes, while Orwell was correct on many accounts there are still some protective dogmas remaining that keeps it from full reality.

Like that old piece of paper in washington the globalists hate so much.
