The Great Recession might be over, but the struggle is still real. A new report reveals 14 million Americans live in poverty today. That's twice as many as there were in 2000. You can call it the poor reality behind the American dream.

Dr. Jonita Reynolds; CEO of Gulf Coast Community Services Association says, "Poverty looks different than the way it looked a decade ago. We are seeing so many who are educated, many who are working, but based on the federal guidelines they're still poor."

After comparing economic stats over the past 16 years, the Brookings Institution says the number of poor has double in the US, despite recent job growth and the declining unemployment rate.

Dr. Reynolds adds, "There are more who are obtaining jobs but unfortunately we are finding that, those who had jobs or had skills, those skills are no longer needed in the economy now."

Even the working are feeling the strain. Experts warn once people start living paycheck to paycheck, it's hard to get ahead again. Add children or aging family into the mix, and the hardships get harder.

Samantha Stevenson, a student at Gulf Coast Community Services Association says, "Me personally, I work and I'm a single mother, and I struggle. It is hard to live on a budget, to pay rent, to put gas in your car, meals on the table if you don't have support from some organization."

You ask /pol/ how to fix a "liking what I don't like" topic for easy (you)'s you don't ask them about serious things.
>>
>>69740254
Yeah, but if they're white they're not really poor

>>
You'd really think the free market and its infinite might would've fixed it by now.

I was about to laugh, but I remembered how lucky you'd be just to have a musket in the UK.

Why did you have a kid when you're raising it alone on a minimum wage job? Are condoms that expensive? Is birth control that expensive? What is it? $30 a month? Compared to how much are you paying for your kid?
>>
>>69740876
The free market bit doesn't really cover things like importing workers to drive down wages or outsourcing. I think the article is saying there's lots of people who work, they have jobs but those jobs don't pay enough to cover rent, food, gas, lights, phone bill and so one flat tire can completely ruin your life, on such a budget.

>people are poor in DA BEST CUNTRY INDA WURLD
>I'll mention guns, that'll teach him!
>>
>>69740254
Government intervention and shit trade deals like nafta are the main culprits, technology has been changing everything demanding people aquire new skills consistently not allowing for stability. Immigration and welfare for the lazy are also a burden on the middle class.
>>
>>69740906
We have high-capacity assault mag extended clip military grade killing rifles with minority seeking rounds, as defined by President Obama.

Virginia gives birth control away even if you're over the income limit for Medicaid.

There's no excuse for unplanned pregnancy.

vote trump and create employment hopefully

No, Ian proxy. That was independent of the economy. We can't into socialism for all the diversity here. We were really supposed to be an Anglo Switzerland (see highest HDI, which is what really matters) but strayed into letting corporations play ropeadope on workers because anything less is communism

She probably did it without a condom after her deadbeat nigger boyfriend refused because "it felt better". That's right, girl, you don't have to stand up for yourself, develop yourself or make reasonable life decisions, the state will take care of you!

Feel the bern.

>14 million Americans in poverty.

>±28 million illegal immigrants in America.

I think I know the answer... and Mexico is paying for it.
>>
>>69741302
Nigger, I make 19.38 an hour. A flat tire would fuck me as well.
You cunts just want gibs to be legislated.
Meanwhile, the faggots that get an auto-raise of 5 bucks are all happy while every other wage earner doesn't see their boat rise as well. So, the "minimum wage earner" earns more in a numeric sense, but everyone that earns a penny more than "minimum wage" essentially earns less than they did before, automatically.
Raising the minimum wage is a form of inflation.
Nobody.
Will.
Benefit.

I always wondered: How the hell do you go back to a normal life after living on the streets? Must be on of the hardest transitions to make.

Let's get this straight. There were less people that fell under the poverty line during the dot com bubble than there are six years after the sub-prime bubble burst? This is somehow unusual?

Personal experience: while homeless, maintain your dignity and your humanity. Don't exclude personal hygiene, EVER.
I've lived in cars, in tents all while attending classes at a state university. I was a student employee so was never flat broke just poor as fuck.
I always, ALWAYS made school-work the number fucking one priority because knowing that graduation would end my miserable state.
It paid off.

You can get a cheap tire for $50. How will a $50 expense fuck you?

this... those fumble fucking around with minimum wage jobs need a motivator to learn a more valuable skill. An additional 200 week will just be pissed away; spent at a buy here pay here car joint; or on the latest (soon to be obsolete) smart phone.
>>
>>69742757
Yes, the object may cost less than $100, but just buying a tire isn't going to put it on the rim or balance it or guarantee that it's safe to put my children in the car.
I don't buy "cheap tires". Like I don't buy "cheap brakes".
>>
>>69742684
Indistry doesnt just come back you fucking moron.

A market doesnt just say: "okay the labor part of the cost of production for this item went up so now I'll pay more for my car/appliance."

NO, they keep buying from an overpopulated under regulated overseas production mechanism that shits on human dignity and rights, but can turn out a car/appliance/shirt whatever for pennies above the fixed cost of mats

Into basic econ Trumpets

Abolish all banks (Credit Unions will replace them), heavily tax foreign goods that can be made here, and dissolve the stock market, which is very easily manipulated.
