It is downright LOGICAL to not have kids if you're trying to live a decent life. If we want to restore birth-rates in the west we have to fix the factors related to them.

If you are in some form paid by the state for having kids you won't need to work as much and maybe you can combine spare time and kid raising.

I was in this camp for most of my twenties. I couldn't imagine why anyone would ever want to ruin their lives with children.
Now that I'm in my early thirties, a bit more mature and could afford to have a family, the idea has a lot more appeal. It seems like it would be really nice to have a wife and a couple kids but I'd still never, ever do it. Why? Because I know what would happen if my marriage ever went badly. I'd get completely fucked by the divorce courts and my kids would be fucked by the trauma of being raised by a woman for the rest of their lives.
Source: watched my Dad go through two divorces, first one involving me and the second one involving the kids he had with his second wife. In both cases is was incredibly obvious that the women were terrible parents and in both causes the courts didn't care. My Dad is now so fucked with child support payments that he's living with his mother and he's in his fifties. He's watching his little girls get ruined by their crazy mother while he does the little he can to raise them right on the one or two weekends a month he's allowed to see them.
And I look at this, and the divorce statistics, and I remember that every man thinks, when getting married and having kids, "Finally, I found a woman I can settle down with and trust to raise my kids and not fuck me over". And I realize that as nice as the fantasy seems, it's not worth the risk.
