Also, to add to what others have already said, the uni is pretty shit. Sheffield Hallam and Nottingham Trent which someone mentioned are old poly's but have some good courses. I met my Bulgarian ex while studying at Nottingham (the real one), and she was over as part of a 6 month exchange between her uni in Sofia Nottingham Business School (Trent), so that might be something to look at if you're just looking to get an English degree. There's a fairly large Bulgarian community in Nottingham because of the amount of students that come through, which could be a positive or a negative depending on your own point of view. The nightlife is much better than Bradistan too.

I think that people overestimate the muslims on the balkans. At least around here they are pretty much the same as us, but with muslim names and different religion. They were practically bulgarian and christian but the turks converted them. There are stories of turks going to a certain village, gathering all the people and tell them to convert. Whoever denies gets beheaded right there. So some people converted and others prefered to die, but overall they are secularized and don't do any nasty stuff (excluding muslim gypsies and actual turks, who deserve to die).
