The general philosophy preachers like him teach are congruent with the vast majority of practicing christians. (Majority worldview)

'Evangelical' means something different in Australia to the States.
Here, an 'evangelical' is a philosophical Christian who bases his beliefs on the written text as opposed to experiences or feelings (pretty much the exact opposite of the US definition, really). We call the experience/feelings/rock concert/megachurch ones "pentecostals" or "happy-clappers".

It is not the "literal word of god" It is a collection of books assembled by the proto-Catholic church (back when the catholic and Orthodox church were one.) The four gospels were chosen from hundreds, and although, unlike the old testament, they are for the most part historically accurate, they are still second hand information. The old testament is literal garbage, having been passed down through verbally before even being written down, and then translated through a few dozen languages.

Most major churches have some sort of interpretation "manual" of sorts that helps understand their dogma.
Even protestants derive things from the bible, because then there would be no moral judgment on any modern issues. The catholic version of this is the Catechism.
In other words, the bible isn't the only thing you're supposed to use. It's stories (truth or metaphor) that are supposed to act as guide.

There are many explanations for the nature of God that are science based, taking into account things like QM and cosmology. Atheists often cherrypick the worst examples of christians, while christians often cherrypick the most retarded atheists.
Unfortunately the majority of subscribers to both philosophies are retarded. Christians need no explaining as to why, it's the immense fracturing within the church as well as corruption.
As for atheists, I believe that most of them us Darwinian evolution as their "trump card" against christians. Not only is Darwinian evolution not even close to what science actually says, evolution has no place in an argument about the nature of a god.

Yes, because there was no standardized set of gospels, and there had been additions to the story ever since it happened. There were basically entirely different religions latched on to proto-Christianity with their own stories and interpretations. How do you solve such a problem?
You have to assemble a team of elders to shift through the material and try to decide which bits are real and which are added on later. They did this without modern science help, but it was a fairly good job. Most of what is left out was the later additions and revisions. The core of the Bible is the oldest texts.

This is also something we atheists over-emphasize. The four gospels are likely written down within the first century, living memory or a generation past, the events. This based on modern studies.
Atheists will harp on this despite it being routine to rely on accounts of events that happened hundreds of years earlier in other sources. Much of what we know of roman history for instance is Livy, and he's not a contemporary of much of what he writes about. Herodotus is even worse, he's a storyteller and even says he's relying on hearsay told to him in many ways, and we still refer to him, many without much skepticism.
Atheists are also slow to critique Buddhism for the "it was word of mouth for so long" even though it took them longer to write anything down.
