Imagine if all your friends went to see a movie or concert or something and invite you. Wouldn't you typically go with them?
Now imagine if you had trillions of dollars. You'd most likely develop friendships with people as rich as you. (It's not like you'd be hanging out in bars like the middle class) So you're super rich and now you have all these super rich friends. Do you stop at a $10 movie ticket or $50 concert ticket? Why would you do that when you have the money to actually influence it? You could invest in it, promote it, and make money off of it.
I don't think the Illuminati is an organization. I think all this illuminati shit is what happens when people at the top live their lives. To everyone else, it looks like a conscious effort to control sheeple, but if it was us up there the same shit would be going on as a byproduct of what we do.
