North America was settled by colonists looking for prosperity and being given large land grants and didn't mix with the locals.
South America was settled by nobility with large land grants and brought along peasant/slaves to work the land who mixed with the locals and later killed off the nobles.
Self-made frontiersmen are generally of better stock than locals with native add-mixture.

The closest they have to white is when one of their grandfather's was a Nazi.
The institutions and culture the British brought with them (common law, proto-capitalism, proto-secularism, indentured labour leading to land ownership etc) vs the institutions and culture the Spanish and Portugese brought with them (Aristocracy, Autocratic Monarchy, supremacy of the church, slavery on a level significantly higher level than that of north America)
