Now life is easy. A partnership is perhaps beneficial if you find the right person, or a richer person, but it's really just about reproduction and social standing now. Modern society isn't as based around the family as before, both in business and politics. A married couple has no incentive to hold similar political views besides maintaining domestic peace, which tends to just lead to no discussion, thus eventual discord.
It's not to say that the family has become obsolete or anything, 'family values', if you could quantify them, are probably an amazing predictor for success in society. But life has grown easy enough that you don't need a strong family to survive, and some social forces which kept families together are disappearing.
