Austin Petersen is the founder of The Libertarian Republic, CEO of Stonegait, and candidate for President of the United States.

Austin Petersen’s philosophy is that of a classical liberal, in the style of our third President Thomas Jefferson: fiscally conservative, and socially tolerant. Austin will fight to restore limited government values, and help create jobs by lowering barriers to entry into the marketplace.

The LP has less than 1 percent of the population registered, the only positions it holds are lower than mayor and unlike repubs and dems they don't receive federal funding for the presidential elections, they run solely on donations. This is only our first televised debate since the party was started 30 years ago, it won't be for at least another 2 election cycles that we get more popular and hold higher power positions.

We aren't going anywhere this election, trust me. Most people view libertarians as crazy tinfoil hatters, and no one knows who Johnson even is.

If he had more mainstream name recognition we could definitely win against Trump and Hilary, on social issues Johnson could totally bring in a lot of the Bernie voters. The problem is getting the public to stop viewing third party as a wasted vote and look into the other options.

>>69640820

I voted Trump, I did my part you fuckwad. Not my fault if the GOP will eventually shoot itself in the foot and put Cruz in the general.
>>
>>69640395

That's implying at these 11 percent are actually serious about voting for Gary Johnson rather than either sucking up and voting for one of the two parities or not voting at all. In all likelihood these people are using him as a placeholder.

If this election has taught me anything it is to be skeptical of all polls. I doubt these 11 percent, and the other people of in these polls, represent a large portion of general America. These people have access to telecommunications and are open minded enough to answer a phone call from a strange number. For example, before the Kansas election Trump was predicted to win and with a large margin. But when the election took place Ted Cruz won with 30 point landslide and Trump only one county in the state.
>>
McAfee has totally surprised me
by leaps and bounds is the most well spoken, reasonable, and polite. Also far from pandering, he knows his principals but also respects standing by commitments huge respect for him.

That's the kind of thinking that prevents Libertarian candidates from getting elected to any meaningful positions. There is literally zero difference between the Republicans and Democrats. They may say they have different positions, but at the end of the day they are all controlled by the same people.

In the last election, there were 100 million eligible voters that chose not to vote because they viewed it as a waste. As long as people keep voting for the lesser of two evils just for the sake of being blue or red, or not voting at all, we will never get anywhere near the Whitehouse.

Equal pay for equal work is anti libertarian. Libertarians do not believe in government interference in the market. Under a real libertarian society, discrimination in the market would be fully legal.

Libertarians believe government shouldn't be involved in the marriage business. Gay marriage and polygamy wouldn't be outright banned, but ultimately it would be left to religions.

This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US Department of Energy.

I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility. Then, I brushed my teeth with that water, filtered to standards set by the EPA and my state.

After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US Department of Agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the Food and Drug Administration.

At the appropriate time as regulated by the US Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the US Naval Observatory, I get into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads built by the local, state, and federal Departments of Transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the Federal Reserve Bank and printed by the Federal Bureau of Engraving and Printing. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US Postal Service and drop the kids off at the public school.

I park my car on the street, paved and maintained by the Department of Transportation, and put quarters issued by the United States Mint into the parking meter.

I then log onto the Internet which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration and post on freerepublic and fox news forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right. Keep government out of my Medicare!
And double magic numbers. Fuck you lobertards

You can be a "libertarian" without "muh NAP". But Libertarianism technically starts with Rothbard. Nobody is a perfect libertarian, just like no Catholic is a perfect Catholic. And most of us aren't as bad as Chris "I agree with the church but abortion is fine" Matthews

>Because literally no one goes hungry in a free market society.
Yes, and nobody gets robbed in a free market society because private police exist.
That's how dumb your argument is.
>>
>>69645469
Protecting it's citizens is one of the very few roles of government. The police are not the market, they are government protection. If you want to open up your own agency that protects people, go ahead. But we aren't getting rid of the police.
>>
>>69645863
The people should decide where their taxes go, if it's towards a police force, so be it
Please stop being an idiot and thinking I have to believe X since I'm a libertarian
>>
>>69645863
>why do you get to pick the services?

Because my party was elected in. I'm in favor of democracy on top of libertarianism.

>>69645914
I'm just stating facts. No one is dying of starvation in America, and there are tons of options for anyone struggling. You can ignore reality if you want.
>>
>>69645983
So you're a protectionist?
>>
>>69645625
You really should learn the basics of a philosophy before you spend an entire thread making retarded arguments. Libertarians believe that aggression against others is wrong and that if the state should exist, it should protect people and their property from aggression. Starving doesn't fall under aggression and is something that libertarians believe should be dealt with by non-state actors
>>
>>69645024
How about this.

The Government doesn't need to be extreme on everything, the money should be spent to the absolute minimum and the major influence on jobs should be the Free Market, not the government.

However, they don't believe that the government can't be used in times of crisis or distress.
They also believe in funding a powerful national military (Not Ron Paul, though)

Reagan was the closest to Libertarian in the 20th Century, that's why he's revered among them. Even though he wanted to ban guns.
>>
>>69645828
most of those stats include malnurishment. Which might have to do with the state control (through regulation) of food markets making it difficult for either cheap or quality food to be produced by farmers. Some guys were recently on Tom Woods Show talking about it

>>69645863
You can have a lottery. Also, original constitutional taxes such as excise taxes (think gas tax) aren't nearly as bad as direct income tax or payroll tax (probably the worst tax)
>>
Lolberts are crippled by autism, no sense in arguing with them.

They will continue to cuck our nation out to globalist interests right up to the bitter end.

The entire 'libertarianism' project was designed from the ground up to turn America into a third-world nation ripe for plunder.
>>
>>69645388

Mises.org and friends would disagree. They are the intellectual vanguard to libertarianism and they all say no government is preferred, and even recommended, and the free market is infallible.

Do you want to know why people are "building up strawmen" on libertarians? It's because the majority truly are like this. On /pol/, on /r/libertarian, on Ron Paul Forusm, on Mises.org, on LewRockwell.com., on TomWoods.com., on YouTube, etc. Hell, we witnessed tonight on the Libertarian debate.
>>
>>69645983
What do you consider 'protection'?
I think citizens should be protected from harmful chemicals i.e, I just made an argument for the FDA, EPA, Section 8, ....

>No one is dying of starvation in America,
We're also not a libertarian society you idiot

>>
>>69646010
So you're happy with the current system then.
>>
>>69645914
Death by starvation is unheard of in any society that has actually undergone industrialization and has a functioning market. People only really starve to death in pre-capitalist subsistence societies.
>>
>>69646029
I am a libertarian. I am a minarchist. I believe in a tiny government whose main role is to represent and protect its people. Why is this so hard for you autistic fucks to understand?
>>
>>69646141
They're protecting the people. What the fuck else is that? Are you a white knight?
>>
>>69646083
It's not a retarded argument. A nation that helps protect its people from starvation is more likely to survive as a whole than a nation that does no such thing for its people.

Do you even fascism?
>>
>>69646120
Please look up Paul Gottfried and stop pretending as though libertarians are zionist puppets trying to impose a globalist egalitarian utopia. That's the Republican/Democrat (the socialist spectrum) agenda
>>
>>69646319
The term 'protectionism' in politics is generally only used for a particular type of trade policy.
>>
>>69646290

Hen what are the police protecting? And how violent are they being with dissenting robbers?
>>
>>69646321
And the best way to protect people from starving is allowing the market to thrive. Communist states supposedly protect people from starving, and how is the survival rate for communist nations? Even your fascist states don't tend to last very long and usually end after a single leader.
>>
>>69646139
I also believe in the FDA and protection from harmful chemicals and protection from pollution.

Pollution and dumping of waste is harmful to other people, and so it marketing a dangerous item as safe. Therefore both break the NAP and would be made illegal.
>>
>>69646165
Do you comprehend the difference between believing in democracy and having opinions on what a government should do in a democratic society?
>>
>>69646660
You said the people should decide what their taxes do, and that's exactly what's happening.
>>
>>69646441
>arguing against a philosophy when you don't even know the basic definitions
Minarchist is what libertarians are. Minarchy is a minimum government, as opposed to anarchy which is zero government. You aspies can't seem to differentiate from the two.
>>
>>69646741
You are being willfully ignorant here. I believe the people should decide, yes. But I also believe that my opinions on what the government should do are correct. So, I try to convince the people that I'm write and to put the money toward certain purposes. Am I satisfied with what they've decided thus far. Not entirely. But that doesn't mean I think we should discard with democracy either.

Is that simple enough for you?
>>
>>69642182
Yes. Insecurity is fine in politics. It's not about whether or not you think your candidate is the best; it's about whether or not they're going to win.
