It can be whatever the fuck. It can be Trump's Chump Thumpers, they can call it OrgyX, it doesn't matter, it can be anything, there's no law that people must be in x party to run for the POTUS.

In fact, most of the founders of the USA fucking hated the idea of a two-party system, and deliberately created legal mechanisms to avoid that, if the people will was for more parties.

Not to mention if he DID happen to run third party, he'd be siphoning off mostly Republican votes. Fine, whatever.

But when he does that, it's only going to make it so the vote is split and Hillary gets away with a plurality.

Want to know how to win the presidency with only 43% of the vote? Ask Bill.

Honestly this will probably be the most polarizing election in a long time.

They should really just advocate votes for Jill Stein just so the green party can get funds.

Hell, if Trump managed to win states nobody could reach 270 but I think what is more likely is the scenario here >>69638208

He'll pull away votes and maybe get within a nats ass in some states but ultimately Hillary will have a simple plurality. You could see a blue Georgia, blue Arizona, blue Texas even if he pulled away so many votes.

Our system was never made for 3 or more parties. It would be an absolute nightmare for ANY third party to get 270. They would need billions upon billions to pump into the campaign.

>For the record, the PRIMARY MODEL, with slight modifications, has correctly predicted the winner of the popular vote in all five presidential elections since it was introduced in 1996. In recent elections the forecast has been issued as early as January of the election year.

>Presidential elections going back as far as 1912 are used to estimate the weight of primary performance. It was in 1912 that presidential primaries were introduced. That year the candidate who won his party’s primary vote, Woodrow Wilson, went on to defeat the candidate who lost his party’s primary vote, William Howard Taft. As a rule, the candidate with the stronger primary performance wins against the candidate with the weaker primary performance. For elections from 1912 to 2012 the PRIMARY MODEL picks the winner, albeit retroactively, every time except in 1960.

There is a relationship actually. If you put up a better fight in the primary than your opponent, you're a lot more likely to win. Sanders and Clinton split the vote much more than the Republicans. Also, the 8 year cycle is in favor of the republicans.
>>
>>69639545
Well to be fair he did say it would require weak shit on both sides.

But it is almost impossible just because most third parties usually end up pulling more votes from one side over the other. Trump could get some Democratic votes but more likely they will just say "EWWWWW HITLER!!!!!" and vote Shillary.

Democrats are sheep for the party, most of them will vote for the candidate no matter who it is as long as they have a D next to their name. Whoever shekelstein the union boss tells them to vote for.

Oh my god are you seriously trying to use the election of 1912 to argue for this flawed model? 1912 had a popular two-term president running third party and actually winning more ekectoral votes than the GOP candidate, Taft. That election was an outlier THAT resulted in a democratic landslide due to a split Republican vote. 2008 was also an outlier. There is no relationship between votes in a primary and votes in the general.

Honestly reading up on the model it seems sound but I'm a little confused how he predicted 2012 based off of NH when Obama had no opposition.

His model is 100x better than shit like this >>69641519

which was literally based off of nothing.

>You're talking about raw vote totals either way, and there is NO predictive relationship there.
Except there is a relationship between how strong a candidate does in his/her primary and how well they do in their general election. In terms of votes, Trump is a lot more dominant than Clinton (Sanders is much more competitive than Cruz). The 8 year election cycle is also in favor of Trump. It is extremely unlikely that dems will win again unless the Republicans take the nomination away from Trump.
>>
>>69636904

At this point, fuck it. End it all. I would rather have Hillary who will back track on all of her fake socialist angles to appease her corporate interests than let the republicans get away with this shit.

Also, Trump should threaten the third party run and say he won't support the candidate, this is the way he can actually ensure the nomination.

t. Nate Silver.

He was literally saying this leading up to the primaries because of course early polls are usually not that accurate but all of a sudden now polls are gospel to him.

He's a shill. He seemed impartial in 2012 but now he's going full shill.

All he does is state by state analysis.

If they throw the election by fucking over Trump, could any trump supporter EVER vote R again? I think I may have voted for a democrat only once or twice for any office ever, at any level of government. (Libertarian, sure), otherwise I vote nearly straight 'R'. But if they fuck over Trump for their own desperate hold on power, could I or you or anyone support any republican candidate ever again?

It won't be Trump killing the party, it will be the establishment in trying to retain control of it.

The GOP is the Government of the People. Not the government of rich old fags that think they own the place.

The model is shit. It relies on two huge assumptions that are not supported by reality. First it assumes that there's a relationship between primary performance and general election performance when there isnt. Trump is more dominant in the GOP because the GOP race had the votes spread out among multiple candidates and the Dems only had 2 legit contenders. Second it relies on the assumption that the GOP should win just because they're not democrats and we're at the end of an 8 year cycle, which is a completely asinine assumption to make. There are so many other factors involved that the whole idea is a joke.

Maybe not, that might lead to the ascendance of the Libertarian party if they become seen as a good candidate
>>
>>69642644
>First it assumes that there's a relationship between primary performance and general election performance when there isnt.
Except there is as I have repeatedly stated and the model has successfully used for elections dating back to 1912.

>Trump is more dominant in the GOP because the GOP race had the votes spread out among multiple candidates and the Dems only had 2 legit contenders.
So what? That means that Trump is the stronger candidate than Hillary which points in his favor. If Democrats had winner take all states and didn't have superdelegates, Sanders would have a decent shot at winning the nomination.

>Second it relies on the assumption that the GOP should win just because they're not democrats and we're at the end of an 8 year cycle, which is a completely asinine assumption to make.
Except 8 year cycles of parties are very reliable and supported by history.

In what universe was trunp dominant anyways? More republican voters voted for someone other than trump. On the other hand, clinton has won crushing majorities in many states.

Try reading the thread, retard. His entire argument is "this professor says he's always right, so i win!"
>>
>>69644384
Our universe. The votes on the Republican side are split across many more candidates which is why we haven't gotten majorities on the Republican side. Trump's roughly 2 million vote lead is a lot more impressive than Clintons (roughly) 2 million lead because he did it in an extremely crowded field of candidates.

Say what you want about the two party system, but it's suicide for our country if Trump runs third party.
