Holy lol, the below is a review of my university by a Chinese student.

As an international student from China, the reason that my family and I spend so much money and effort to study here in Scotland was because in my mind, this was suppose to be the land of enlightenment, the homeland of great thinkers such as Adam Smith and David Hume. That was the reason why I left China and went to the UK for study, especially since I am doing a subject as controversial as politics.

I am currently in the middle of my second year and so far, this has been a total disaster and there seems to be no signs of improvement.

The lectures are so outrageously bias toward to radical left that unless you share the same view as the lecturers, you are going to feel very uncomfortable the entire time, since you will not be given a time to respond or ask questions afterwards. Some professor also use this as an opportunity to promote their own agendas instead of remaining natural, telling students to join a union or sign their partitions. One professor even when as far as to spend an entire lecture talking about how justified he was at going on strike since he works so hard and so passionately. All this is mixed in with large amount of post-cononial white guilt and western self hatred (which as an international student, I find it extremely difficult to sit though an hour of a room full of westerners denouncing their own heritage and apologizing for what their ancestors have done hundreds of years ago). This is especially problematic, as it seems like that most of the lecturers share the same views, so there is no counter balance to their viewpoints.
>>
And the radical left part was not a hyperbole, examples I have experienced include in one of the required reading in the Sixth Century Course on International Development, North Koreas planned economy was named as an example of successful economic model (hence the title of this review); Another one was that in whenever the economist Milton Friedman was mentioned in the lectures, he was never quoted directly. Instead, we were only given the position of his critiques, as if the entire academia disagrees with Friedman. But the worst example I have experienced was that in one of my tutorials, the tutor openly justifies the atrocities committed by Stalin, followed by somehow blaming the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre on the 'imperialistic neo-liberlal capitalist agenda'. When I tried to respond, the sheer amount of hostility and outright hatred that I received from other student was unbelievable, and then I was silenced by the tutor with her tell me how they have heard enough of my 'ruthless' and 'social darwinian' views.

Unless you are a radical leftist that is not interested in having a real discussion, only wants everyone to regurgitate you views, and hold the likes of Naomi Klein and Noam Chomsky as some kind of socialist demigod, I will highly recommend that you don't repeat the same mistake I made in coming here. The lectures and tutorials here are as politically bias and intolerant of disagreeing views as CCTV evening news or the People's Daily back home.

Communism has to shape itself to the mindset of the people it tries to take over. Our Communist narrative here is very nationalistic, they're anti Euro and anti Europe too.

Is this how your university actually is? Tumblr taught in classes, really?
>>
Yeah I got sick of all the white guilt and self-hatred too. Amusingly, since I'm Latino, leftists lose their shit when I defend whites.

that's how most western universities are, at least in the arts and humanities. a friend told me social anthropology is absolutely full of it, but thankfully it stays outside of the science/engineering faculties for the most part. i have some friends doing degrees in wildlife conservation and one of their core courses is indigenous studies, they're currently learning about white privilege. the intellectual climate on campus is depressing. only active political movements on campus are the socialists, the marxists, the greens and the young liberals.
>>
I almost want to take some bullshit courses courses just to experience this because I never suffer it in my hard science major.

no wonder those people think so highly of themselves if they learn this shit in university.

Shocking that tumblr actually gets taught in universities.

At least I am having none of it studying business
>>
Distance learning via the internet is the future. I've been completing my entire bachelor's degree program online and haven't gotten any tumblr stuff. The closest I've come to it includes research on colonialism's contribution to instability in Africa and discussions on race and culture in a class focused specifically on diversity, but even then my instructor insists that we include more than one viewpoint in our writing.

arts and humanities are beyond redemption, the majority of professors are left-leaning and aren't afraid of incorporating their biases into the content. there was a thread recently on a resource pack released by UNSW that suggested that referring to indigenous populations as "primitive" was problematic, and that you should use the phrase "efficient resource managers" instead. it's nothing less than social programming. western academia has come to the point in history where using words for their intended meaning is frowned upon.

you ever feel like you're missing out on valuable resources or discussion of the content?

Some of the Chinese students I have encountered in school (specifically the ones that came straight from China and basically lived their entire lives over there) are pretty based. I have also picked up vibes on Trump support from a lot of them too. Makes me feel bad that the Chinese almost seem right wing when compared to ultra leftisms of most colleges.

>>69630554
>they have heard enough of my 'ruthless' and 'social darwinian' views

like exploding muslims are not 'true' muslims, some chinese are not 'true' chinese obv.

>Shocking that tumblr actually gets taught in universities.

You think that they came up with this stuff? Sure, they've taken identity politics to the extreme with their made-up pronouns and shit like otherkin, but they're just regurgitating the Cultural Marxist bullshit that young people loved in the 60s.

On a slightly unrelated note, but related to the justifying of Stalin: I find it funny that the right wing is seen as being violent these days, when in the 20th century there were many terrorist leftist organizations that seem to have been forgotten about.

Yeah, remember those bombers and others affiliated with Weather Underground? They all enjoy cushy positions in universities.
