What is a dialect? There's differe by dialects of Spanish. Why? Because people in different places speak it a little different. When learning a languge you learn it properly in the most universal way without quirks and accentuated enunciation. If you live in an area with a large amount of "x" language speakers, you should learn that language if only to increase your own marketability. I stayed for a time in South Tyrol but still learned a bit of German because I understood that people there had a history with said language.
It also depends on your job. If you work in the oil industry, learning Arabic will let you rise far. Tech industry? Mandarin or whatever loos speak.
