What are your guy's thoughts on if we should or shouldn't raise minimum wage?
>>
Can a single mother survive and have the economic means to raise her child decently, on 1 full time job? (~40hours/w)
>>
>>69612165

Raise it gimme more money
>>
remove the minimum wage
it does not help anyone
>>
>>69612165
No.

Minimum wage and all labor market restrictions need to be abolished.

There only should be one rule and one rule only: The hire or fire concept. No restrictions whatsoever. That wouls massively increase economic activity especially if welfare was cut back to a minimum.

Yes but raise all wages for every single job highe than minimum wage as well.

I.e. you want to subsidize her choices through the customer's prices, the employer's money, the wages and salaries of others, and the employability of entry-level workers.

No.

Get rid of it.
>>

Too late, California already did it. $15/hour by 2022.

Enrique the anchor baby and Lashawn the career shoplifter will be getting paid $15 an hour to barely lift a finger. Free college and free healthcare! Diversity!

I'm going to end my life once Hillary is president.

I don't give two shits about the mother. But if the child is brought up decently, then he/she can be a better citizen in the community, which will pay off in the long run.

What, raised by his whore mother who never seems him because she's pulling night shifts at McDonalds?

Pay off to whom? Clearly not the business owners or consumers forced to bear the higher wages or prices while they wait for the young genius to grow up. Assuming his mother keeps her job anyway.

And by this logic, you might as well cut out the middleman and have the government pay everyone rather than raise the minimum wage. It'll pay off in the long run, I'm sure.

I think we should raise it. Just raising it to $9-10 an hour would be enough. $15 is way to drastic.

Places that raise the minimum wage will have lots of money circulating and will make it profitable for businesses. Such states will also not need to give out any food stamps and very little benefits overall so there is less need for taxes.
>>
>>69612564
They don't understand it from an employment perspective. Here in Canada for example, you cost much more than your salary.

EI and CPP contributions you make? Ha, your employer pays the same CPP and DOUBLES your fucking EI contribution.

Your taxes that are remitted? Cost the company more than what is deducted off you.

a 15 dollar an hour employee costs the company 19 dollars to employ.

People do not fucking understand this. But what do you expect? Most of them are fucking cattle.

You are stupid as fuck. Not every single mother is a whore. Some woman escape abusive relationships where the father was physically beating them or their child. Some woman have husbands who have died. But I guess according to your logic that makes those women whore too huh?
>>
If you raise the minimum wage to x amount then what happens to other professions?

Also if we keep raising it year on year then in general prices will rise, you will pay more for food, energy, items in general because they will all raise costs just to try and earn the profits that they used to earn because they have to pay more labour costs.

While it is good and intentions are good it will just raise the bar on prices overall.

Okay, I looked up some numbers.

There are ~10 million mothers in the US.
If the minimum wage went up to ~$9,98, and they didn't pay tax, they would have same minimum single mothers can get in welfare here

It's $2,5 more than the absolute minimum wage in the US right now ($7,5)

Do you think this will destroy your consumer market?

The post office right now is talking about raising the wage for all workers, especially the low income ones. Casuals, postal service employees and part time flexible schedules would go to between $16 and $20, regulars either mail handler or maintenance or otherwise would be around $22 and $24, my wage as a low end mechanic would probably be $26-$28 and the specialist mechanics would probably be around $30-$35

Keep in mind this is a speculatory comptehensive listing.

>>69612165
Yes. People say minimum wage causes unemployment. Ok well without minimum wage there would still be unemployment because wages would drive down to levels in which no one would take. There was no minimum wage in the great depression, people could wager their wages down to pennies if they wanted, but they had families to feed so they wouldn't take them. We need minimum wage.
>>
>>69614086
Consumers set the prices
>>
I'm not so libertarian to say that a minimum wage shouldn't exist, but it's at a fair balance or close to it. The idea that it should be an independent living wage is horseshit.
>>
>>69615096
How is a single mother who left a relationship with an abusive father a whore? How is a single mother who's father of her child died, a whore? If you can give me a solid explanation I will concede my point and agree that all single mothers are whores.

This autistic reasoning again. Hey, why not make it a $50 then or $100. That way no one will be poor because more magical money will fix everything
>>
>>69612165
if we could get our lefties off the collective guilt cock and limit immigration so companies were forced to compete for workers instead of the other way around, you wouldn't have to mandate the minimum wage, it would rise naturally. McDonald's is a job for teenagers, not a career. You've got 30 year old foreigners coming here who don't understand that, working the fry cooker and demanding real work wages for what is not a real job, the great irony here being that they'll never get it because the native population's children will always be willing to work for less than them, not having overhead or children of their own to worry about.

of course only when it's white kids undercutting mexicans does anyone in the Marx crew see this as a problem

delirious if you thing this is nearly as common as women who just made poor life choices.

and really, getting knocked up by a violent man is a poor life choice. like bitch, did you not get to know him first?
>>
>>69615173
>There was no minimum wage in the great depression

There was, near the end. But even aside from that, Hoover and FDR strongly urged businessmen to keep wages high -- and who's going to ignore the president?

In fact, if you look at the people who kept their jobs during the depression their wages actually went up in real terms. If wages had been allowed to fall, more people would have been employed.

The argument "there would still be unemployment without the minimum wage" doesn't even make sense in the first place -- of course unemployment would exist but why would you want to make it worse?

>wages would drive down to levels in which no one would take.

Yes. In this and only in this circumstance would a minimum wage have no effect on employment. But if you set the minimum wage above the market wage, then you'll cause unemployment.
>>
>>69615226
No they don't they merely decide the price they are willing to pay for something while a business decides the price it is willing to sell that thing, when these things meet that is the equilibrium price. A minimum wage increase would by default increase the cost of doing business which guarantees the price it would be willing to sell has to go up regardless of consumer desires
>>
>>69615285
>How is a single mother who left a relationship with an abusive father a whore?
She still slept with the abusive man, and women prefer abusive men than civilized men because of their backwards breeding strategy anyway.
>How is a single mother who's father of her child died, a whore?
She just is a whore.
>>
>>69615644
>lel okay, It would cost your business $182 billion to raise it by $2.5 a year.

>>
>>69615734
>delirious if you thing this is nearly as common as women who just made poor life choices.

Never said it was as common. I was saying that I need a justification for that blanket statement "all single mothers are whores".

Not all relationships start out abusive.

Labour isn't the only cost to a company you retard.

>>69615644
That depends on how many procent that is of the total contribution margin of all those companies who employs the 35 million.

>>
>>69614797
Because Denmark's minimum wage actually doesn't really matches the US because they require MORE money to buy things. You retarded liberals look at large numbers and automatically think they have those values and purchasing power when the reality is different.

The real minimum wage is zero....as in when you are unemployed
The number of people unemployed should be lowered.

When you raise the price of something you'll lower the demand.
Raising the minimum wage will have the opposite impact.

>>
>>69614658
Nice, but how much will services increase by to offset the hit in labor costs?

>>69615226
While that is nice and all it never really does happen since it is a push and pull and consumers are always stupid enough to pay the price the majority of the time.

Business owners are consumers. You are falling into the trap that shifting money from one set of consumers (in particular from the consumers that employ people) to another set of consumers somehow creates jobs.

I think it should be raised but not a blanket amount across everywhere. I think it should be a bit higher, but no where near 15$ that people are crying for.

States should be able to set the prices depending on the cost of living in that state, or by some other metrics, I'm not an economist.
>>
>>69617049
sure bud
>>
>>69617493
Probably because you can survive on $10/hour in most places and still have some money to save if you're not full retard. $15 is above the intent of a minimum wage.
>>
>>69617793
Are you really too thick to understand this? I don't see how I can make it simple enough for you to understand. Do you think labour is an employers only cost? Or maybe you don't know that people buy stuff?
>>
>>69612165

How about we fix how worthless our currency is and how badly inflation has fucked most workers salaries?

You cannot disprove that a small amount of a thing is good by demonstrating that a massive amount of that same thing would be a disaster. For example, if you're sick, taking some medicine might be a good thing. According to your logic, why not take TEN doses of medicine? Why not the whole bottle? Just because a massive amount of something is bad, it does not imply that a smaller amount of that same thing is good.

When someone proposes raising the minimum wage to $10, $12, or $15, "why not $50 or $100?" is not a valid argument. For every penny you jack up the minimum wage, low-skilled workers get a raise, but some will get laid off and some employers will have to raise prices. At some point, yes, the cons will outweigh the pros, but if the minimum wage went up by $0.01 tomorrow nobody would get laid off, but the workers would indeed get a small pay raise.

Economists calculate a certain number where they feel the pros would outweigh the cons, and it's usually somewhere around $10-$12. Most of them actually agree that $15 is too high. But "why not $50?" is not a valid argument.

Just 99.999%.
How many fucking chaste war widows do you think there are in this day and age? I know several single mothers personally, and they ALL left their husbands, usually cheating on them first. Women these days are just taught that they can do no wrong, and they all support each other (and secretly want each other's marriages to fail, but that's another story).
