Marijuana exacerbates pre-existing mental illness depending upon what it is- one of my coworkers is schizophrenic and can't smoke to get high as fuck anymore because of it, but she still smokes for her arthritis because she refuses to take her pills- but it doesn't cause you to go schizophrenic. The friend I spoke of was a very confident and popular guy from my school.
We smoked together for awhile and over time he got more and more self concious and less confident in the way he acted.
Eventually he barely hung out with me anymore and then stopped answering his phone all together.
Months later I saw him on the street and he was a bumbling mess. He looked like an autist and could barely keep eye contact with me and clearly was immensely uncomfortable.
Out of pity I ended the conversation quickly, told him it was nice to see him and that he should call me if he wants to hang out.
