No, the remaining employees will be expected to pick up the slack. It's called "skeleton staffing". I've been a victim of it before, they tell you it's temporary that you'll have to do more yourself but then it never changes. What three workers did before I wound up doing myself. For the same wage as before too, not twice the pay.
>>
>>69579225
You need to take into consideration the local economic situation of various regions across the country.

A place like Columbus, Ohio doesn't really need a $15 dollar minimum wage because a home, which I consider the gold standard of wage consideration, is only about a hundred thousand dollars.

Places like San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York definitely need one and I'll tell you why... Greedy faggots have completely fucked the real estate market in places like that and they're going to have to pay for it. If you are going to be selling your home for an average of a million dollars in some areas, you will have to pay the people providing services enough money to be able to live close enough to commute to work.

As someone from Vancouver, I can tell you right now that high cost cities are cancer and the scum that can afford these homes better cough up more.

>"You know what we should do to cure inflation? MORE inflation! BERNIE! BERNIE! BERNIE! :D"

ok, i'm no economist teacher, but even i know inflation is what a stable and growing economy wants to have. if you're getting inflation, it means the prices of everything go up because people are willing and able to pay those higher prices. whereas deflation means your country is going down the shitter and everybody knows it. you do know, inflation is a given in any civilized society, right? how is it logical to believe the rent prices of manhattan or san francisco will stay the same or even go down?

how, by firing you? there's literally no evidence of raising the minimum wage causing massive layoffs. the raise will give poor shit consumers more money in their pocket to spend, they sure as shit don't save it or stash it in the caymans. they spend the shit out of it and buying more shit than they did before, this is all additional business that's going to accumulate and mitigate the layoffs to a negligible amount as we've clearly seen in Seattle.

I support $15 dollars minimum wage. Why?

I agree with you that a home is the gold standard for age considerations - FOR SERIOUS JOBS.

Working McDonald's or being a part time janitor (although they get paid more) isn't supposed to be a home buying wage.

What you completely forget is that renting exists, and that the wage for menial employees goes up in those expensive areas proportionally anyways.

The only thing raising the minimum wage does is devalue to dollar even more and make more valuable jobs pay less by comparison.

God, maybe Canadians SHOULD be IP banned.

>Berg

That kind of inflation is tied into the increasingly advanced products, however it is not the reason we have such high inflation.

High inflation is achieved through over printing of money (whether real or as loans, etc). The only thing this achieves is to devalue people's savings (enticing wasteful behavior) and subsidizes the massive debt that the government and companies have, which feeds into getting more and more loans and raises the risk of having a crash because there is the probability of more toxic debt.

If someone is tipped $0/h they are payed $7.25/h
If someone is tipped $3/h they are payed $4.25/h
If someone is tipped $5/h they are payed $2.25/h
If someone is tipped $5.12/h or higher they are payed $2.13/h

We haven't learned anything from the Mexicans yet. We need to be sending our employable sons and daughters with the friends they made growing up to a place that has a high cost of living and high paying jobs, while the parents need to relocate to places with extremely low cost of living, the kids need to live in the cheapest apartment they can find and split that cheap rent amongst 20 people, and then do nothing but work for a few years and then return to their parents in the low cost of living area with a ton of money.
We've just become too comfy and don't want to give up our luxuries, we'd rather slip into economic irrelevancy instead of manning up and suffering for awhile to adapt to the new system.

Man, the worst part of the minimum wage shit is that people don't realize what a fucked up society we live in. Our federal government punishes success and forethought.

My dad, for instance, set up a 529 account for me when I was three. (For those who don't know, it's a college savings plan). Over fifteen years, he managed to squirrel away about ten grand to help pay for my college. I got into a good school, and applied for financial aid. I was denied because my dad had saved literally half of one year's cost of college. I wound up having to foot the bill entirely (despite not being able to afford very much), which doesn't bother me, because college shouldn't be free anyway. It made me want to work hard in college and make my money count for something.

No, what pissed me off was that the dindus I graduated with basically got to go to college for free, despite never saving shit or planning ahead.

This fucking country actively rewards those with no foresight, hands them shit for making poor decisions, and denies the same shit to people who do what society fucking asks of everyone; be smart, be conscientious, do your best to make money, pay your taxes, whatever.

The whole idea that you can lift someone out of poverty and send them onto the right track is horseshit. A dumbass is a dumbass is a dumbass, regardless of how much free shit you throw at them.

And paying people more than they are fucking worth based on hours worked rather than output fucking produced is the same bullshit that Terry Fucking Goodkind (who sucks as a writer) demonstrates in every one of his books depicting fantasy socialist nightmares.

The first, most immediate change with a 15/hr minimum wage will be that you will be expected to PERFORM at the level of a 15/hr employee.

Fuck up the register one time? Fired. There's 45 dindus and mexicans outside wanting a crack at the job. College grads and all.

Oh, you're late to work? Fired. I have 30 ppl wanting to flip burgers for 15/hr.

The bar for employees will be raise. Significantly. Employers will be way less lenient with them. Also, college grads will be applying for these jobs, which in turn will very disproportionately affect the negro and beaner communities.

Essentially in a few years time inflation will pass the 15/hr threshhold, but because 15/hr was such an insane jump from 7.25, everyone is going to laugh when they request 27.25/hr to "make ends meet"

Families not living together anymore is a huge reason why everything is so damned expensive. There's more demand for everything when everyones parents are divorced and need to provision those separate households, which is also a huge reason marriage gets dragged through the mud in popular media the way it does now. Everyone having their own independent castle is a very recent invention and by all accounts does not seem very sustainable for living spaces larger than cucksheds.

>This fucking country actively rewards those with no foresight, hands them shit for making poor decisions, and denies the same shit to people who do what society fucking asks of everyone; be smart, be conscientious, do your best to make money, pay your taxes, whatever.

This desu. I am MAXING OUT my retirement fund right now, at 17.5 -18k A YEAR. I make north of 130k as a pharmacist, and live fairly frugally.

Now, obviously, SS is going to go belly up and fucked over very soon, and no one on this board will ever see a dime of SS or possibly even medicare. I saw a stat that said 62% of citizens do not have enough in savings to absorb a 1000 dollar emergency hit. Meaning less than 1000 dollars total in non-bound liquid assets.

I'm 28, and have over 45k in savings in 401k and Roth IRA, and putting 1200 a month in every goddamn month.

What is going to happen when I retire in 35 years? Am I going to get to keep my 10 million dollars while the dindus around me starve? Like you said, those who actively plan are punished, and those who don't are bailed out. It scares me desu. I will seriously go Anders Breivik if they raid my retirement fund or tax me at 90% to take it out. I'll seriously kill every motherfucker I see.

Well the idea that everyone could be a homeowner is really a short lived modern notion

Only really from like the 1960's to the early 2000's. Was it possible to do and the later years was because of easy credit.

Before that most people always lived in multi-gen households

on top of that, every CURRENT 15/hr job will want a proportional raise. Such as a fast food MANAGER. They make about 35-40k a year, or 15-18/hr. If the CASHIER all of a sudden makes 35/year, you can bet your fucking ass the manager will want a proportional raise.

>'why do you care what someone else makes? it doesn't affect you'.

The MANAGER job has an inherent value 'x' above that of the min wage job. As of now, it's about double. The manager of a McDonalds will absolutely NOT work for the same wage as the 18 year old 'lmao weed man' he just hired. And maintain staff, payroll, inventory, customer satisfaction, do balance sheets, go to meetings, etc... The manager position DEMANDS 80-100% more pay than the cashier, and this will not change. They will demand 25-28/hr. Then the REGIONAL manager now makes just marginally more than the single store manager, and also wants a raise. And the dominoes will continue to fall.
>>
>>69588015
>I will seriously go Anders Breivik if they raid my retirement fund or tax me at 90% to take it out.

I have put the most in a Roth IRA, meaning I already paid the tax. I get to take it out at it's value at that time, provided i'm 55 years old at least. 401k however is taken out at the CURRENT tax rate. So if Pernie Zanders is president and decides that my 150k a year is top 1% and needs a 90% tax rate, I take out 100k from my 1 million dollar nest egg.

As of now, no they cannot. A government PENSION would be the first thing raided I believe, congressmen, police, firefighters, military. I think Poland did this rather recently.

But then again, the government is doing ridiculous fucking shit in regards to civilian rights, is it impossible to think in 35 years they won't have new laws allowing them to take it?

I don't think that's impossible.
>>
>>69588323
This.
That's where the real problem lies. The day after doubling minimum wage will be an epidemic of workplace shootings.
Boosting the minimum wage ridiculously is great for minimum wage workers and the worst thing for literally everyone else.
It's just a shame that our culture tends to cater to the weak and needy. We actually have to seriously consider helping unskilled 18 year old dipshits at the cost of destroying our entire country, because they're "needy".

>>
>>69579659
My company is doing the same thing. It cost us so much more to operate that it means everyone is doing undocumented overtime. Roughly 65 hour weeks and we have to be productive all day.

The engineers and programmers are complaining that they were already working long hours as the norm.

"but they aren't minimum wage"

Min wage now pays $31,000 fulltime. So turns out even our student RA's and GRA's get massive pay boosts. They used to be at $10 and $15 respectively except they also had student loans and tuition. Which now, we have to pay them all $15 so good luck. You might as well not work in a lab anymore.

Even so, employees aren't our biggest expenses, it's payroll taxes. The government taxing us is literally the single largest cost. Bigger than rent, payroll, or materials.

I want the government to get the fuck out of our pockets and let us work. The industry can't endure much more of this before people just burn out or stop. It's insanely competitive already.

I'm already looking into selling the entire assets to a Chinese business. Shut down and retire with a just over a couple million. These dumbasses wanted it, democrat signs all over the office. Enjoy your widespread poverty I don't have another choice. My only wealth is in assets since I can't produce. Do they expect me to ask everyone to work even more hours, then to take out massive loans to keep the company afloat that I can eventually only pay off by liquidating everything eventually anyway? Then what do I get for dedicating my life to this? They seriously expect me to burn my assets to keep them employed a few more years? Fuck that, I'm tired and old. I wanted to work longer since I don't get social security yet, but fuck me. Relocating is too damn hard, it would take me away from my family, and 90% of staff wouldn't be able to come with anyway so the effect would be the same.

Companies won't leave, they will simply sell out to foreign businesses.
>>

The projections for my investments earn 60% of their value from the 30th to the 35th year. Goes from 4 mil to almost 10 in just those 5 years.

4 million isn't enough to maintain my 130k a year lifestyle for 40 years.

Oh i'm not complaining now. My life is A+, no complaints. I've already hit my ceiling though, as far as income, as I'm the manager of a hospital pharmacy. Only Pharmacists who make more than me are the mangers of retail chains, and those who own successful independents (which is 100% impossible to break into now). I'll never make 1 mil a year, or even half a mil. But I'll always make 6 figures, and for that i'm blessed.

all i'm saying is that the TREND is that such as the successful planners are robbed to pay for the dumbfuck dindus who don't save or plan for more than 1 day in the future.

I still drive a 2003 chevy silverado I bought in 2004 when I was in HS with money saved from the farm. I could EASILY go buy a 2016 corvette stingray and make payments on it instead of putting 18k a year in retirement.

But I don't want that. I Want to retire at 60 and travel the world and have a lakehouse and a boat for my grandkids, a vacation home, etc...

If my retirement is raided, this is robbed from me, which also means I could have just blown all my money in my youth and lived it up (not live frugally).

All I meant was that if me saving money doesn't end up benefiting me hugely, I'll lose my goddamn mind.

I have tried to talk about it. They think I am the enemy or that "Well maybe not you but most small business owners." The ones that do actually have the intelligence to talk about it have it all wrong. they categorize owners as rich because they own wealth producing assets but they ignore all the risk and failed businesses it took to get there.

If the socialists in this country want to share costs and think partly owning wealth producing assets would be fun, then literally everyone would be bankrupt. This system only works because risk ISN'T shared, it means when my first business failed, it failed, and I lost money and credit and had to start over, get new money from work, invest it, build up my credit, get new investment capital. That was MY job and MY responsibility and there would be no business assets to sell without it.

What I am getting at, is they want profits to be shared but they don't want a piece of the risk. So not only will businesses leave or sell out, they will also stop forming. If I faced these rules in the 70's then fuck everyone, I never would have tried to run my own show.

Could you even imagine the reaction a bunch of millennials would have if they worked at a Mc Donalds for their $15 an hour then the investment flopped because the Subway across the street got popular during the health food craze.... and they had to deal with the cost of a failed investment? Could you IMAGINE the outrage from them if we shared risk and I gave them each a $125,000 cost share to pay? Or if they all had to file bankruptcy with me?

If we should share profits you goddamn commies then we should share risk!

They think it's not related, then quote me stats about how the average business owner has X millions in assets. Yes.. assets that run the company that I OWE THE BANK FOR. You don't get a share of that unless you share the risk.

Learn how to spell retard.

No one is forcing minimum wage workers to stay in big cities with high cost of living, right? No one is forcing businesses to stay either. Move to another state if you don't like it.

What are you? Hella rich, Canuck?

You realize rental rates are going to steadily increase when minimum wage does, right? Take a look at Australia if you don't believe me.
Rental spaces are a limited commodity and as such their prices will be determined by ability to pay by renters.
>>
>>69591465
And you think businesses won't move? They'll leave in droves and California's economy will continue going to shit.
>>
>>69591364
The fact that I don't have a degree and go to school 20 hours/week limits the hours I can work. Labor is worth more in cities with a higher cost of living.

>>69591323
There's a reason the cost of living is higher in California than it is in Texas, bub.

>Money
>Public
Yeaaaaaaah no the Federal Reserve Note is not owned by the public. It's owned by a private bank. A centralized private bank. Each fucking dollar you have is a loan note to that bank.

Yeah, liberal commie socialism. Come to glorious capitalistic bastion Texas for true prosperity.
>>

It's not being greedy its supply and demand.
>>
>Business owners are the bad guys
It's the same rhetoric the socialist far-left has been spouting for ages, the only thing that's changed is now they're gaining traction and people are paying attention to them. The hippies from last generation had babies that became the communists of this generation.

Everything these people do boils down to "Capitalism is bad! America shouldn't be Capitalist!"

They have no idea what the common American public will do when the Red Menace comes knocking again. If they don't remember, Communists are still higher on the list of old American bad-guys than Terrorists or Nazis. The liberals might like socialism, but they won't like what the American people do if the US becomes socialist.
>>
Only in a retarded liberal state could something like this get passed.

What's worse is the effect this will have in neighboring states. For example, someone that regularly travels the borders from Cali. to Texas for a job might get price gouged since Cali. will have everything adjusted for a 15$ min. wage.

Oh noes, will somebody PLEASE think of the CEOs?!

You realize that rent has been increasing for years without any change to the minimum wage, right?

Let them leave. Someone will take their place.

I do want to move out of California when I get my degree, but seeing as I'm attending one of the best universities on the face of the planet for little to know tuition money I'll stick around here for another year. The only thing that isn't covered is rent which is what fucks me.
>>

And then California will be a giant Detroit, except with illegal immigrants instead of blacks.

>The fact that I don't have a degree and go to school 20 hours/week limits the hours I can work
Whose fault is that?

You have options. You could work partially and go to college too. Or you could work full time. Or go to college full time.

So you are suggesting the employer should pay you more even though you wont actually be working any more hours?
Paying more for doing the same?

Fair enough. I do feel somewhat bad for you, Commiefornia sucks the life out of you. Best of luck to you.

Implying that the cost of living in Modesto is the same as San Franfuckboi.

AIDS in my asssssss!!!!!!!
>>
>>69591907
It's going to be increasing moreso now with it. The naturalincrease in prices is from the value of the dollar and the increase in people wanting housing. Supply and demand can be a bitch.
>>
>>69591903
I'd be fine with large corporations eating most of the costs associated with a higher minimum wage, but it's not gonna shake out that way
>>
>>69590586
What shit heap of a job do you work at where you are paid half of what you are worth? Do you morons honestly think that you are magically producing billions of dollars worth of product by yourself and the CEO'so and business owners all go home to some scrooge McDuck vault of gold coins? Fact of the matter is all that 15 dollars an hour will do is crush start up companies and small mom and pop shops because their over head simply does not allow the doubling of entry level job pay. Ironically only companies like Walmart will be able to effectively cover the increased cost and the progressives who have made it their personal mission to topple these evil mega corporations will be directly responsible for the deaths of their competition. Not to mention the further destruction of the middle class as people who originally had double the buying power of minimum wage workers suddenly find that power drastically reduced, unless they can somehow argue for and their jobs can afford 30$ an hour.

Rent in my state is completely fucked. It's cheaper to own a home than paying for a smaller sized apartment. People in my state have forgotten that apartments are supposed to be the cheaper, temporary alternative to home owning. Whole area needs to be nuked to be honest; my state has among the worst reputations out of the 50.

That's why I'm moving to our neighbor once I've saved enough to put the down payment on a home. Cheaper housing, better gun laws, less black people. Win/win.

If you're lucky then yeah, someone who can afford to operate in high cost areas will replace them, AKA established corporations like Safeway, Walmart, etc. Enjoy your wealth inequality
