The dutch settlers wanted to start in a new place because they were unhappy with the situation in europe, they started off as members of the dutch east india company and built infrastructure in south africa because it was a good supply station/segway station for ships going further east.
The false notion that the dutch settlers invaded south africa is patently false, there was only a primitive tribe there that didn't have actual language but communicated via click click sounds, the dutch settlers defended this primitive tribe from zulu warriors that would have otherwise exterminated them, and developed the afrikaan language to bridge the gap of communication between them and the "click click" tribe.
Today after the apartheid regime has ended and the ANC taken over, there's quite a few killings of white farmers and whites for simply being whites in some areas, covered up by the south african media, and not reported in western media at all.
