It's sort of like calling yourself a Thermidorian in that it's an obsolete classification more relevant to issues of the past. In the time of Louis XIV, there were two camps about who should be head of the church: the Gallicans, who believed that the King of France should be head of the church, and the Ultramontanists, who believed that the Pope should be head of the church (so no, it's not extreme even though it has the word "ultra" in it). Ultramontanism survived for longer in Canada because the British kept trying to force French Canadians to accept the King of England as head of the church, and we were having none of that.

I personally too think that following these big gestures, it would be very nice/necessary if he understands the worries of the catholics in europe and the threat they are under and addresses this soon, but we will see.

What's the point in fireworks? They need a whole while to get manufactured, shipped to europe and set up for the new year's eve, just to last for literally 5-20 seconds in the sky. Our life is very much comparable to this, as we should only focus on our life on this planet. Everything we know of is temporary, but does that take away the meaning of it? No.
Also, even if life seems pointless, one should always remember that you are giving your life meaning, and not anyone else. Therfore the idea of an afterlife is not needed, as our ability to set goals and our passion to strive for those great goals is enough to fill our hearts with humanely energy.

There is a meaning in life for an atheist, although it is reduced to competition to get more resources to get more freedom to stimulate your serotonin as hard as you can before you die.
It's pure logic: if something is effective and profitable - you should do it.
