I'd say the biggest problem is high-level corruption. On the lower levels it seemed to have died down (you don't bribe a cop if he stops you or something like that) quite a bit because most people are decent and law abiding. But the ones which rise in politics are shameless and they're voted in by the dumb, eastern masses because they're socialist and promise free shit. Also the eurofunds are just a temptation for everyone, even for the more decent politicians.
Due to this the health care and schooling suffers because they have less money to work with even though the taxes are quite high and the economy is doing alright -- Bratislava region is like the fastest growing region in the EU.
