When will americans admit that the F-35 is an utter meme at this point?

whoa whoa whoa..... here what you need to look at: where exactly is it being built? who is the US Congressman that represents that district? How much wealthier is he now than when he can into office?

>>69458248
trump spends a large time talking about crumbling infrastructure in this country and waste and corruption on dumb projects like the F35
you probably wouldn't see it if you're only watching John Oliver's highlights, though
John Oliver had an episode about this. I remember because, while I've never seen his show, there were about 500 threads on /pol/ the day after saying how full of shit he was on this topic. I'm not seeing the same amount of vitriol in this thread though, it's weird.
>>69454171
Us remaining relevant on the global stage is directly tied to us being a military superpower.
>>69454171
>esquire
>having an opinion on military tech and hardware
You have no idea what that bird is capable of.
>>69458532
not with dumb slow planes like the F35, it isn't
Military/national security is the original and primary function of all government.
Infrastructure is a good thing to spend money on, let's just not cut out things from teir one; let's cut things out of our specified social programs and departments which, in terms of the government development model, are auxiliary and not fundamental services.
Having said that, I wish they had just spent the money on an A-10 update. Governments have serious issues throwing money away on expensive, overly ambitious, and ill managed bureaucratic nightmares. The money would have been well spent on a useful proven platform- but try telling that to our bureaucrats.
>>69458532
America can be a military superpower without wasting the kind of money it does on hardware. As it is most of the US' enemies don't even have the capability to operate an air force, hell most of them don't even have guided missiles. Scrapping the A10 in favour of the F35 is lunacy when practically nothing on the modern battlefield that can even deal with an A10 isn't owned by you.
>>69456645
If we spent some trillions on our airforce, i think we could do a lot better.
>>69459330
So yall are just freeloading right now until others wise up? I mean it's a smart thing to do until you push your benefactors too far. I always get a kick out of Euro countries complaining about American militarism- I wish you knew a number of people here are getting to the point where we would rather just ally with Russia, who doesn't freeload, and let you parasites cave in on yourselves.
Oh why look, someone who knows nothing about combat aircraft design and development whining about combat aircraft design and development.
The F-35 is far from a meme. It's going to replace the F-16 and be our mainstay platform all the way to 2060 at least.
Also, I find it funny that the writer is saying it stole the US military budget. We use about 4% of our GDP for military. Of that 4% was the cost of the government's part of the F-35 program.
I think what's really causing all the hate is the fact that people want something to blame. It always seems like they need to attribute shortfalls in an economy to some military expenditure when it's really just them projecting all their personal failures with their own money. Similiar to what Bernie supporters do.

Reducing military spending and not wasting what you spend on bloated, overly ambitious projects are two different things.
Trump has a history of being ahead of schedule and under budget in his building career.
Shuttle and SLS programs are good examples for the government's method. Literally name me just one time our Govt did anything efficiently and cheaply?? We could have gone to Mars by now on the shuttle money if we didn't have people running the programs who could care less about the bottom line.
>>69460899
And all of those countries have shitty GDP. Divide the amount of military spending by the GDP and you will get a percentage.
Jesus, have you guys even taken an economics course?

in 2013 our GDP was 16.7 trillion. of that, the various levels of government collected 5.6 trillion in taxes. of that we spent around 900 billion on defense related spending, counting the DoD budget and all the ancillary crap.

PUBLIC DEBT!!
EVERYBODY POINT AND LAUGH
HE JUST BROUGHT UP PUBLIC DEBT
I mean seriously, you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel here for examples. You could at least have brought up the 6 Trillion we owe to foreign entities or the reserve deficit or something, but no, you brought up the public debt, the one that doesn't matter.
Public debt is still in our economy and most of that is Social Security bonds. It's like you went and got a pie graph of US debt and picked the biggest one or something.
Is that what you did?
>>69464313
>You could at least have brought up the 6 Trillion we owe to foreign entities or the reserve deficit or something, but no, you brought up the public debt, the one that doesn't matter.
public debt is actually higher than any foreign debt, though
we have more unfunded liabilities to ourselves than to anyone else
>>69464608
Yes I know, that's the point. We owe ourselves money. Now think about that for a second. We can do whatever we want with that debt. Pay it, forget it, keep it and use it as leverage, whatever. It's ours and is therefore much less financially damaging than something like owing a foreign debt, because we are the ones keeping tabs on it and regulating it.
>>69454171
When will you realize you're getting them too?
>>69464313
ah yes, the ol' "we-owe-it-to-ourselves-so-its-not-a-problem" argument. yes yes, please govt take my money and give to banks, i'm ok with that, because it's "still in our economy"
>>69464864
please go back to listening to right-wing radio talk. you'll feel better.
>>69454171
>F-35
No, the F-22 was a meme. $150 mil a plane, and was grounded from flying overseas because if it got sand in its robotic vagina it would literally shut down and crash. They CANX'd that program to build the 35s.
>>69454171
I have an interview in 1:40 at lockheed martin can someone quickly redpill me on why you all hate the f35b instead of just posting it sucks any no information
>>69459330
small price to pay to make sure our country could destroy yours and the rest of the world in the blink of an eye. It's not about the explicit cost, it's about the implicit value of being the strongest country in the world. No one needs finland for anything, your country could stop existing right now and no one would care : /
>I know nothing about planes and aerodynamics
>But let me tell you all about this bird
Why do ""journalists"" do this?
>>69460899
good, id rather we spend it on the military to protect all of us than on gibs me dats for jamal
>>69454171
Outside of the interstate highway system, roads and associated infrastructure are maintained by local and state governments. The military is strictly Federal spending. You are barking up the wrong money tree, blaming the condition of roads (that aren't interstates) on the Federal Government.
also any interview tips for any lockheeds here? I know some of you must browse pol

Because they need to discuss something in order to jutify their paychecks.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/f-35-joint-strike-fighter-60-minutes/
>The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is the Pentagon's newest warplane and its most expensive weapons system ever -- nearly $400 billion to buy 2,400 aircraft. To put that in perspective, that's about twice as much as it cost to put a man on the moon
They don't even make good comparisons. It's like saying I could buy twenty bicycles if I sold my car.
>>69465597
Wait I thought that they eventually fixed all that shit?

Yeah. Eventually. But the damage was done and the orders were cancelled. They're more or less show planes now.
