and it likely has something to do with technology and how the landscape changed in the early-mid 00's, with modern Social Media coming into being, and Smartphones coming into being in the late 00's. older Millennials mostly grew up without that, so they still experienced the "old world" style of childhood. (playing outside, sports, etc) interspersed with Videogames, which, back in the 80's and 90's, were still more child oriented. something about the industry changed around the mid-late 00's as the new technology started becomign a selling point. (CD tech in the PS1 was just used for better storage and quality, and sometimes, a Dev might include some music on the disc for CD players. starting with the PS2, the fact it was a DVD player was a selling point, just like the PS3's Bluray Player, which leads to Xbone's wannabe all-in-one multimedia box)
later millennials came of age with more of that 21st century tech.

The iPhone was a curiosity when I started high school (12-13). The Motorola Razer was the cool phone to have. People still used the hotmail instant message program and Facebook only started being popular when I was about 13-14. Co-op gaming was still face to face until the PS3 in 2006 and I wasn't actually using it connected until 2008.
I grew up with email and internet, but it wasn't omnipresent like today. It was a tool rather than a lifestyle. Before I turned about 14 there simply wasn't popular social media to broadcast your life worldwide, except for myspace, which was more like a blog than the stream of consciousness you find in twitter, vine, Instagram.
