Modern "Witchcraft" is just a bunch of landwhales trying to bring back a completely lost Celtic faith.

The puritan idea of witchcraft is not unlike other paranoid christfag beliefs. The idea that there exists people who are literally in contact with the devil, not like an actual established cult but more like a supernatural collective of people who side with devil. That way they could be ANYONE in any given area or situation who at some point met and joined the devils army.

Essentially, it's the thought processes of people who'd be diagnosed with mental disorders today manifested in the past. The Puritans were triggered by all sorts of shit, if you mumbled they thought you where whispering satanic incantations, if you went into the woods without a reason they believed you were communing with the devil. The puritan outlook was that the forests and land itself was saturated with evil and that to leave their purified town was asking for an encounter with darkness.
