>be STEMfag
>have shit 9 to 5 job
>work to make Mr. Shekelstein richer
>only knowledgable in numbers
>make a bit more money from working much harder than liberal arts majors
>government takes your money because of tax brackets
>spend spare time trying to make up for inferiority on anonymous message boards

>be Liberal Arts graduate
>world is your oyster
>all-around knowledge
>don't have to work for Mr. Shekelstein
>have more free time to enjoy other pursuits in life
>get paid less but also work less
>life in general is better

It's no coincidence that the "muh STEM" meme gets rammed down everyone's throat yet barely anyone wants to pursue STEM related fields.

Why haven't STEMfags killed themselves yet?

You forgot about the part where the liberal arts major gets a job in teaching and is now in a union, where he can't be fired even if he's extremely incompetent/lazy.

Meanwhile, the STEMfag has been fired by Mr. Shekelstein and is now homeless while his wife is being banged by the liberal arts major during his vast amount of free time.

Let me check my school's employment statistics on the latest outgoing class.
>90% of business students are employed, 5% went on to further education, 3% did other shit, 2% seeking employment
And liberal arts class
>62% employed, 25% continuing education, 10% other (e.g. sitting at home not looking for work), 3% seeking employment

Even the Engineering school has worse statistics.

I do business with a STEM twist so I'll bite on OP's premise: STEM is hard in school and there is a serious effort to outsource the jobs to lower paid people like was done with many libarts degrees to illegals. Except with STEM, it's the abuse of a legal system (H1-B visa).

You forget that many Liberal Arts graduates to on to become lawyers or other high-paying occupations, hence the 25% continuing education.

While STEMfags work hard for 6 figures a year, the smart Liberal Arts graduate can earn upwards of a million via graduate school all while working half as hard.

Diplomacy is its own field of study and some faggy hipster wouldn't be accepted for it. Diplomats are paid government officials.

Also:

Lawyers, historians, translators (study of languages), and psychiatrists are all very different very own fields of study.

My mother is a certified translator and she got that by studying languages in university. Libarts certainly won't get you government certification for translating documents.

I almost killed myself when I graduated magna cum laude with 2 B.S. (electrical and computer eng.) and 2 minors (computer science and math) and 6 pending job offers

because of this exact realization

at one of my internships, my team went to lunch once a month. The 40+ year old men had this EXACT conversation twice, one month apart

>so I think I'm going to shingle my house this summer
>oh yeah I shingled my house last summer after that hail storm
>oh did you get those cedar shingles?
>no no way I can't afford those
>yeah they're nice though they're supposed to last 50 years
>silence for the rest of lunch

These men are truly dead. They walk the same path on the floor to their cubicle every morning, set down their coffee mugs in the same place, hang up their coat, sigh deeply, and sit down at their computer.

They care about nothing in life. They've spent the entirety of their prime wracking their brain at a desk for 8-10 hours a day writing code and designing circuits. They can't even get excited about their kids playing baseball. This was true for EVERY engineer I met save 4 at THREE INTERNSHIPS (each for a different company)

>go upstairs to HR and IT
>people laughing, joking, walking around, talking
>IT guys playing ping pong and watching movies
>IT guys combined their cubicles into a supercube, have 4 TVs, a table for board games, mini fridges, kegerator, flying quadcopters around, go for group bike rides
>HR women are rarely at their desk except for the first hour of the day and first hour after lunch
>women mostly just socialize all day and still get their work done

Having a STEM career is shit. Your life is shit and you come to hate yourself very quickly.

Make your own company or give up STEM.

>daily reminder that a bartender working WEEKENDS ONLY makes 1/2 the salary of an engineer

Currently in a three year programmers thing at UNI called IP, for the 10 years it has been up only 4, yes 4 people, has finished the degree.

This. Only people who never had money care about making big bucks. Not earning a lot of money with art now, but holy fuck I just feel great, I work on my own interests, I don't just work so I can buy a bunch of useless shit that catches dust in my appartment.

Sure there are exceptions, but from my experience, STEMfags are soulless people who have no idea what they are supposed to do except for slaving away and buying shit.

There are degrees of anything. Anyone with two braincells can get a law degree. As can anyone with two braincells get a en engineering degree.

Ditto for engineers.

Payed less than engineers. You need to decide if you want that extra money. Of course I think the HR folks have it pretty shit, having to deal with all the fuckers coming through the office.

LOL...

I feel so sorry for you college fags.

I dropped-out of high school and found work at the department of sanitation right before the housing bubble burst and the economy went to shit.

I started at $55k and worked my way up to $150k.
I'm going to reach $220k soon.

Because garbagemen are considered "physically intensive" jobs, I can retired 20 years after I started, so I can retire when I'm 37.5 years old and collect 90% pension on the average of my last 3 annual salaries.

I'm going to put in tons of overtime to collect $500k/year for the last 3 years and then retire so I can collect $450k/year every year for the rest of my life.
I have a comfy $60k/year office job from a family friend waiting for me after I retire.

I studied literature. It was fun apart from the onslaught of feminist post modernist crap. My teachers didn't mind you rebutting those arguments in your essays, which I did often. I also wrote my dissertation on conspiracy theories and won an award for it, so they obviously didn't mind a bit of red pulled writing.

I also had lots of opportunities at the end of it and now work in consultancy travelling around the country.

So I got a good well rounded understanding of my peoples history and culture through their writing, and now make a bunch of money after. Stem ain't everything brothers.

To be honest mate I interviewed for a graduate position at my current company. Competition was fierce, and most others there had better degrees than me (both in terms of relevancy and in terms of grades), but I had confidence, sociability, and most importantly of all, prior work experience.

I was lucky to have worked at Tesco Head Office for a year and a half. During this time, I learned how to deliver merchandising plans to a tight schedule, and got into ad-hoc reporting and basic data analysis.

I also used my History degree as much as I could during the interview. I emphasised that my degree involved breaking down complex sources into easier to understand information.

It doesn't have to be like that though. My friend recently got a job with us, and he did creative writing. His only prior job experience was some on and off work he did for his dad's accountancy company, and a couple of accountancy qualifications.

It honestly sounds like you have the experience necessary to be considered for a similar role. Check out the requirements for some of the graduate positions, and don't be scared to go for them even if you're not fresh (I had been out of university for 3 years, and the most recent guy we hired has been out for closer to 7).

Being a test analyst is a great "middle ground" of IT; it doesn't necessarily require any technical knowledge (such as coding, etc.), but exposes you to certain processes. For example, I know a lot more about finance and pensions now, simply because I must understand my company's processes very well in order to test shit correctly.

There's decent progression paths and specialisations, and if you eventually start working for a contracting firm, you're laughing. You put yourself down as self employed while getting paid obscene amounts, travelling all over the place and expensing fucking everything.
>>
>>69394551

This is incorrect.
Each open garbage man position in NYC gets over 500,000 applicants now.

The government and union makes sure our salaries don't follow the free market.
We should make making closer to $30-50k/year with no pension and only health insurance benefits, but we're making $200k+/year with overtime pushing it closer to $400-500k/year and great benefits with 90% pension plans with early retirement incentives.

As much as /pol/ likes to meme about STEM, STEM is all calculations and shit and that can be done by computers. STEM majors are increasingly becoming obsolete. On the other hand, you can't exactly automate the jobs of a sociologist, rights activist, or artist. The incredible irony here is the STEM autists would be the ones without a job. For example, one of the single most useful fields of study today is women's studies. Women’s Studies graduates have many career path opportunities to choose from. The following list is only a sample of possible career opportunities.

I find starting 160k hard to believe. 110k is about the biggest starting salary readily available without having a serious connection.
>>
>>69401727
Look up the compensation for any popular tech company. Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, etc. They all have above 150k total compensation per year.
>>
>>69401843
Yeah, I know the compensation for Apple/Google/Twitter, they give 110k average compensation for fresh college graduates.

Hell, working at apple or google wouldn't be worth 150k. I can list a large number of the top tech companies as entirely not worth their compensation even if it is that high. Buddy of mine currently works at apple, during crunch time he is looking at 60-65 hour work weeks. They run burn out tactics on their employees and cut them loose when they see productivity drop.

It's a lion's den m8, not worth the effort. I'll stick to a cushy job at 100k and not literally lose years of my life.
>>
>>69402092
Also you should look up the actual compensation. Facebook is on average 105k with a 25k signing bonus. Still, even with your signing bonus, puts you under the margin on your first year.

>I got 5k$ profit sharing for it last year, app is still growing, looks great on my portfolio, secured my position at my company

I have worked at this company for three years this august and I gotta say, the STEM thing worked out for me. I am currently making 79k and I hope to make more with profit sharing and Christmas bonus this year.

The point of all of this is the following: I was a neet for years, like sit around doing nothing before I graduated and got this job, so I went from being a epic failure to being on track in a relatively short amount of time. If I can make it, we all are gonna make it.

You understand that's only 8 hour workday, right?

If you're not working 12's, you have no reason to complain.

They don't. It's the standard 25% a year with a 1 year cliff. Don't make up bullshit if you have no idea what you are talking about.

lol liberal arts majors don't know anything, only how to make things look pretty

Must suck to hate your job. I'm a stemfag and love my job. Work overtime all the time, sometimes for free. The pursuit of knowledge is amazing and being surrounded by scientists in their 70s who still grind 60 hour weeks is inspiring

I guess I'm supposed to hate my job cause of Jews?

>Work overtime all the time, sometimes for free
And then you're middle aged and if you have half a brain you finally realize you wasted most of your life giving the Jew free shekels and devaluing yourself, that your life is almost over and that you accomplished nothing worthwhile. But hey, keep pretending if that keeps you sane!

Really now.

Do you know how to stimulate economic development in developing countries? Explain the process of healing and nation building in post-conflict states. What role do interbational civilian police play in that process? Tell me what the world bank and IMF do.

Doubt it, you can see the salaries of all the employees of New York. See through ny. Highest paid person doesn't even make 700k/yr and that's like the Vice President of stony brook hospital. He's just talking bunch of shit. I know waste management people in NYC they get paid pretty well but it's like 55k/yr

Anything economics/development beyond babby-tier is an exercise in advanced applied calculus.

So you say, but you never answered the question.

55k for picking up trash doesn't seem too bad, especially if you don't consider overtime. While I don't believe that you can make 500k a year just off of picking up trash, I have heard some people earning around 6 figures with overtime.

Highly suspicious. What law firm pays an ASSOCIATE 350k? Plaintiffs firm with major recent windfalls?
>>

yeah anon is bullshitting.

Ehh, on a second thought, I guess it's possible--though extremely rare: 7th yr associate with ~90k bonuses.

Though firms like this are the top of the top, which I doubt would be represented at a place like /pol/... ?

No idea why, but they should off themselves. Social Science graduate student (higher levels than you dunce caps could ever achieve, post-grad researcher) and I make more than you ever will. Not only that, I have jobs lined up out the door.

But have fun working on the projects I decide funding on and design.
KEKS.

The funny thing is that besides the interpersonal shit, any person from a science background will be taught that shit in their first year.

Except they'll also have valuable skills.

I got a liberal arts degree, and after a few shit (but very easy) jobs, I now lecture all over the world, 16 hours a week, everything paid up in advance of wages (rent, utilities, etc), and more than ample wage to get by on.

unrelated: why do you guys call a Canadian a leaf? Is that supposed to be derogatory? It's kinda adorable.
