Tustin and Mission Viejo are great but not as nice as Irvine or Laguna Niguel which is further south. Irvine is one of the safest cities in the nation and has a ton of money so there is plenty to do. 20 mins from the beach, few hours from the snow, great mexican food, sushi, and nice restaurants everywhere. I live in Irvine and haven't seen a homeless person in like 3 years, and there are a LOT of hot and white chicks and asians around. Down side is it costs a lot for rent and to go out, but if you get a job around here you should be fine. South OC is way more white and has great schools, north OC is mostly mexican but great food and lots of bars and shit to do. You're also about 1.5 hours from San Diego or Hollywood, and 3 hours drive from Vegas.

OP, this is my suggestion. If you're interested in being around a German American community, Pittsburgh is a good bet. There is also a large amount of Italian & Eastern European descendants; it is one of the most old country feeling cities in the United States.
If you don't want to live in an urban setting, the suburbs are nice. The Western PA countryside is also pretty nice. The weather there is fine, a bit on the cooler side. You'll get some lake effect snow but not the blizzards of the north east.
