>$34/hr as an intern
Fuq, I know ExxonMobil paid well, but that good for interns even with the current oil prices?

I used to be a consultant working out of the Brookhollow campus in Houston but they let me go in late 2014 as oil prices dropped (daily rate from my company was somewhere around $2.5K/day and they were looking to trim the fat).

The way that XOM treats its employees is bafflingly easy to me. People could just say they wanted to get up and walk around for an hour and a half for ergonomics (employees, not contactors like me). An ergonomic program on the XOM laptop I had would frequently lock me out because I would type too much for it to be satisfied and it enforced breaks. They forced all employees to change jobs every two years for some reason, which seemed bafflingly inefficient.

By the way, if you've never been an intern at ExxonMobil before, I have some tips. They are hyper anal about security and safety. Like ridiculously so. Follow these rules and you should be OK.
(If you're working in a plant instead of an office, things may be different, I hear overseas they don't even wear safety goggles at plants).

>no running in the halls. Even if you're in an IT building.
>speed limits and signs are to be strictly followed on ExxonMobil campus'.
>no alcohol of any sort is allowed on campus - even an unopened six pack of beer in the trunk of your car
>no use of cell phones in the car on or off campus (if you say you are in the car or people think you are, all people will end conference calls out of consideration of your safety). no walking around and talking on a cell phone either.
>hot beverages must ALWAYS have a lid, securely fashioned before you start walking with the beverage. open mugs are a no-go.
>you must ALWAYS use the handrail while going up or down stairs.
>if not at an ExxonMobil building in a securely badged area, laptops must be secured with a kensington lock if you are leaving the room.
>Your badge unlocks your computer, and your computer will automatically lock if you remove your badge. It is a serious violation to leave your badge unattended or walk around hallways without your badge.

>if anyone sees a person breaking these rules, it gets reported to their manager, and it is a negative mark for bonuses.

>Meetings often open with a safety minute; these are typically one of the participants opening with a story about how they "almost tripped on a toy" or "how a bit of sawdust went up while they were cutting some wood but it bounced off my safety goggles" and other lame shit

Those are the high notes. They're a pretty chill employer in how they treat employees. If you are content to sit back and enjoy the comfy ride you should have a good time.

The slow nature there drove me nuts though.
>>
>>69345987
He is following a distance degree in GIA in Thailand but his whole family worked in this field. You don't really need a degree but you must be sure that you buy the good quality stuff and be aware of the current market, of the location of new/successful mines etc. You need a good income at the beginning to buy good stuff. Spend money to earn money, that sorta things.

Hehe, I'm an IT monkey (software engineer) which is totally different from your work. I make good money (about $100K/yr total) and I was contracted to ExxonMobil for a period of about 10 months (it was supposed to be longer, but the falling price of oil bit hard). Since I was working for another company I don't want to get too particular on the details.

Since I was not working in an engineering capacity I'm afraid I can't really give you too much of a perspective of what that's like as a career or ExxonMobil.

My understanding is ExxonMobil still has a pension and treats their employees like gold, whether or not they're engineers. I'm sure you'll have a bright future ahead of you there.

Always an open spot, work 3 days a week & make 55,000 after taxes.

Go to school longer to get masters and work as a practitioner (hospital will pay for all of your schooling usually) and make 80-120k a year.

I work as a nurse now and currently half way to masters. Live with my parents @ 22. No student loans. Trust me, living with parents = bad is just a meme. You will probably be better off in 3 years when you move out than most of the dumbasses that moved out @ 18

I'll still maintain our quality of life is superior to yours and over time our situation will improve. Standards of living doesn't take into account other factors, otherwise you'd get the impression Saudi Arabia is having it pretty good, despite the gross infringement on civil liberties and human rights.

>You're right. Detroit is an awful place.

Your country as a whole is a lot more violent then ours and when there is (here) crime it is no where near as savage as it is there. Don't even need to cite Detroit.

Not in the US. Unless he's working about 12 hours a month. And though your standards for living -err- I mean costs of living are 30% lower, for a MechE, even an entry level one, he should be getting MUCH more.

> gross infringement of civil liberties and human rights
Every country has hunan rights violations. I'm sure Portugal has more than enough itself.

In big cities, yes. When you have a population like ours, come talk. Until then, yeah no.
