I would think you're trolling but what I have in my experience is something I wouldn't think any ordinary civilian could possibly comprehend. If you're going by hours a day worked the math wouldn't work out. We had no weekends, we had no holidays. Literally went the ENTIRE year without a single day off. We only (lucky ones) had a 2 tweek R & R vacation. I took mine 2 months in so went the next 10 months or so without a single day off.
The two hour a day patrols were the MINIMUM patrol duration. About half of the time the patrol got extended for a shitload of reasons. WHen a bomb went off we had to call EOD and wait for them to show up and do their thing and analyze it. When we suspected an IED we had to call EOD to come take their time inspecting the shit, lest you want to get blown the fuck up because you didn't want to wait for EOD.
Many times the joes had to do 24 hour guard in 6 hour shifts. If you really want to know the average amount of hours we worked during the day, it would probably be anywhere from 8-18 hours a day. And if you want to compare washing cars to roaming Iraq make sure you make it a bit more accurate and have your car washers wearing about 50-75 pounds of gear.
