I don't think I've ever heard of a group of men complaining that men depicted in video games are way too muscular looking, or too handsome. It happens all the time with female characters though, but honestly sometimes I can understand where they're coming from. At lot of outfit designs for female characters are straight up retarded, but as far as "over sexualization" goes, I think it's pretty much on the same level as the male characters.
The other thing is, a huge part of feminism is women taking back their sexuality, saying it's ok to act and feel sexy, and to wear whatever you feel like. But then you get stories like this where they go up in arms over a pose, so it's like ok which is it? You can't tell women to feel sexy and powerful, then fucking complain about a women doing that, a fake woman on top of that.
It all seems a bit hypocritical to me. If this was some indie game made by an all female team, it would be praised like no other. It would become a perfect example of powerful women going against the patriarchy, displaying their sexuality with no shame and sticking it to the man. But it's a AAA game made probably by a mostly male team, so it's deemed inappropriate. It's just fucking silly. I see nothing sexual about that pose. To me it's the character basically saying, yeah I just kicked your ass and I looked good doing it. Video game characters, much like comic book characters, are often over-exaggerated as an aesthetic choice and to bring the illusion of a fantasy element to life.
It has become common for a lot of people to comment on how women are over-sexualized in video games, but they do not comment on flaming skulls, ridiculously large guns, exploding corpses, giant flying lizards, and other obviously fake things in those same games.
It is also an almost exclusively female voice crying out and from people who don't even participate in the gaming and comic book hobby.
You never hear mean complain about the unreal phsyique that someone like Superman, the hulk, or spider-man has in comics, for example, but someone from outside sees a woman take on the same pose that spider-man has used many times and the world hears about it because it is a female ass being shown in skin tight clothing and it makes women conscious about their own asses not looking as nice and their own bodies not being as flexible.
That's the point though, you aren't supposed to look like that, bend like that, be that toned, or lift cars with your mind and fight aliens. It is an imaginary world with imaginary characters doing imaginary things.
The over-exaggerated female forms in video games do not bother me any more than the over-exaggerated male form bothers me because both are intentionally unrealistic representations of the human form.
That said, the gaming industry's best bet is to ignore all the negative remarks from those that criticize them in such a matter because those people who are bitching are not the ones giving them money and caving into their demands is a way to cause those who DO give them money to stop doing so.
