In Western, colder societies, the people have had to work hard to survive the winter. This mentality has forced us to develop a work first, relax later ideology. The continent is shitty in general, it didn't have the domestic animals such as horses and cows and the majority of the continent is jungle and desert (with the exception of the Nile I suppose). On top of that, the Europeans came and took over the entire continent for a long time and kinda fucked things up for a bit.
It's all about opportunity/money. At the end of the day, any human being (Barring mental disability) can learn a skill and be good at it despite their race. What matters is if those skills are cultivated for their given society or if they are neglected. One of the issues with Africa is their lack of cultural idenity- a lot of them speak french/english as their second, and their governments & schools all administrate in these foreign languages. And if they can't speak english or french and are unable to learn them because they're dirt poor and living in the middle of nowhere because they speak their native tongue. On top of that Africa is very fractured ethnically because of the arbitrary colonial borders drawn by the Europeans, so there's a sort of double dissonance going on
The more important reason though is that the oligarchs in these African countries don't really care about their people. They sell their countries resources to the west and china to line their own pockets while their people suffer, and basically zero money goes toward the cultivation of infrastructure, industry, arts, architecture, etc. And the billions of dollars in "Aid" from developed countries only helps to perpetuate this. It's really kind of sad when you think about it; all of the African immigrants I know are extremely successful/intelligent people. But they had to immigrate to realize their potential because it wasn't possible under the conditions at home.
What Africa needs are strong nationalistic leaders who put their people first, and make Industrializing their countries a priority. Only time will tell of this ever happens though
