>The Federal Court has found Valve, via its online game distribution platform Steam to have “engaged in misleading or deceptive conduct and made false or misleading representations to Australian consumers” about the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law.

Under the Australian Consumer Law, all consumer goods or services come with automatic consumer guarantees that they are of acceptable quality and fit for the purpose for which they were sold.

If they are not, consumers have a right to a remedy, which may include refund, repair or replacement in certain circumstances. These consumer rights cannot be excluded, restricted or modified.

>Australia
>Having any say on the business practices of an American company

They can literally just stop selling games in Australia. Hell, all Aussies would have to do is switch their computer's region to US or UK and use Steam anyways.
>>
Yeah, but doesn't valve have a refund policy now? It's pretty much a non-issue now.
>>
>>69202962
>gizmodo
Way to fulfill your reputation...
>>
>>69205453
That policy doesn't comply with our laws.

It is a core Australian value to complain and get your money back, even if it was a fair deal.

I'm ok with this.

I always knew

>>69206392
Why would Valve fight against under-the-table profits. They would be under no obligation to IP ban (which could be circumvented via proxy anyways), or to look at credit card information (which could be circumvented via paypal or a pay-proxy service anyways).

There is literally no way for the Aussie government to win.
>>
>>69202962
But valve has conditions duh!?
>>
>>69205024
What's wrong with expecting a company that sells wares in your country to uphold said country's business laws?
>>
>valve stops selling games in australia

Enjoy

Well, You see. He expects to go to the shops and have to sell his first born child to buy a tv only to find out its the box.
>>
>>69206953
Nothing. In fact, it would be far more ethical for them to comply.

I'm just trying to point out that Valve could literally be massive jews and get away with it if they so choose.

My problem is Steam charges me in USD, even if the shitcunts have regionally priced us in the anus
>>
>>69202962

This court case is why they implemented the refund system BTW.
>>
>>69207352
Wouldn't unplugging your network connection and playing it offline just be the option your looking for..
>>
>>69202962
Does this mean Lord GabeN will no longer sell games to Strayans at discount prices? Games there are expensive, I heard. Without discounts, gaming becomes a very expensive hobby for them.

Looks like a headphone amplifier.

Refunds have been a thing for a while anon

It's valves built by an austrailan company.

probably an amplifier.

I searched Australia and valve got that.

I suppose it's debateable that they are selling wares in australia, if the servers are in the US

Can video games be saved?
>>
>>69208346
Most people I know get cheap cd keys from other sites. I can't be fucked because I have money so I just pay the stupid tax and save my time.
>>
>>69206953
It's against the free market.
Governments should mind their own business, which is not looking after their citizens, and let corporations do as they please.
What are you? Some kind of communist?
>>
>>69206392
you don't need a credit card to buy games on steam
>>
>>69208346
can confirm i save about 30% by buying the cd key off alternate sites
>>
>>69206121
Funny, that's what niggers do here in the states.
>>
>>69208371

Yeah, but they don't let you keep the game when you get the money back, they try to deactivate it so you can't play it any more while keeping your money.

And That's Not Fair, and that's why we need Steam to Feel the Bern.

Yeah - $40USD game in the US gets scaled to $60USD in Australian Steam which comes out at like $80AUD. I wish they'd just list the AUD prices so it doesn't feel like such shifty advertising.
>>
Kek @ Australia thinking they can tell valve what to do
>>
>>69207979
>>69213600
Contingency factors, like this bullshit ruling, have to be taken into account when pricing. Blame our shitty government.

Every dumpy ass company will probably put installers for their games. So when it takes 2 hours to install your .exe that you downloaded through the steam app, you can't get a refund.
