It's happening in the Netherlands too. Last week a whole bunch of people wroten an open letter (http://www.volkskrant.nl/opinie/wij-willen-een-down-vriendelijke-samenleving~a4266835/) making a stand for a 'Down's friendly society', which was a reaction to a test for the syndrome being made available for free. These people think testing before birth is the exact same as telling people they shouldn't be alive.
There's a documentary airing this week about how normal Down's syndrome is, titled 'Am I Allowed to be Alive?' From the trailer it looks like it focusses mainly on aesthetical issues, not on the intense care some need, or the heart problems, or the dementia etc. But I haven't seen it so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.
Personally, I don't get the resistance to knowing whether your kid is going to be leading a normal, healthy life or not. Must be the deeply-ingrained Christian values favoring all life, even if some of that life has next to no quality for the person living it. Not for the parents of course: Down's is love!
