I feel like there's no one in the country who thinks that Ted Cruz is a good dad, or that his family even likes him that much. He's an unlikable weirdo who comes across like a worm.
You can't dodge the truth forever. If it's true and he tried to weasel out of it, people won't forgive him. If he'd just said right away that, yes, he and his wife had had some tough times in their marriage, but they love each other, and they're in life together, even though he's made mistakes. That he begged forgiveness and she forgave him.
He could refuse to give details out of respect for the other people involved, so they don't get dragged through the mud for his failings. Take full responsibility.
And then start talking about Belgium, and the issues in the world. Acknowledge that people think he's a creepy little worm by saying that yes, he's had personal failings and paid a great price for them, but that the American people aren't looking for a husband. That they're looking for a strong President with the sense and temperament to face issues head-on.
The more he deflects the worse it gets, the more they dig, and the more likely it is that they'll find something. It's never the crime that pisses people off; it's the cover-up.
