The old 4chan was as wild and manic as it got, and it felt like you were getting away with something when you were on here. The old guard always makes reference to the old web being like the Wild West, and if that was the case, 4chan was Jesse James. An outlaw even among outlaws. There was a heady sense that nothing could touch you here, that the rules simply didn't apply, and for the most part, between the CP and telling a billion dollar cult to suck one, that was the case. 4chan did what it wanted and fuck anyone for telling it otherwise.
That's part of the reason Trump has found such a foothold here. The old feeling of rebellion he inspires calls back to what once was, that mad sense of being able to do anything.
