Let's talk about the thrilling cultural mecca that is Kansas.

Recently, leftists have been citing Kansas as an example of why conservative economic policy is supposedly ineffective.

I have tried to do my own research on the actual numbers but have not been able to find a clear, unbiased analysis on the effects of Sen. Brownback's tax cuts.

Anyone here from Kansas able to shed some light? Or anyone at all that has insight on the matter in general?

>Brownback
>tax cuts

Fuck man my taxes have been going through the roof it was at 7% couple years ago now its closer to 9.75%. The highways have improved a lot and I got my constitutional carry. He's also cut a lot from education increasing tuition.

Another point to add, Kansas has been bleeding jobs for awhile because there is no interest for companies here its fucking nothing out here. His tax cuts haven't done shit because the damage is already done people and companies have no interest in Kansas.

Regardless if growth is not as high as other more marketable states, lower barriers of entry into a market should still stimulate industry. Are these tax raises a political move in the face of public outcry and deficits?
>>
>>69188531
>lower barriers of entry into a market should still stimulate industry
In theory, but nothing is happening in Kansas. Why is that?
>>
>>69188531
>Are these tax raises a political move in the face of public outcry and deficits?
That and the services and institutions Kansans value have been getting cut. The common Kansans actually respects education unlike these radicals of the Republican party.
>>
I live in Wichita. It's growing here. Almost impossible to find an open apartment downtown. Lots of growth, renovation.
>>
Republican majorities in the Kansas Legislature have raced to approve a new plan to reshuffle education spending, hoping to head off the Kansas Supreme Court's threat to shut down public schools statewide if lawmakers don't act by the end of June
http://www.usnews.com/news/us/articles/2016-03-24/kansas-republican-lawmakers-race-to-pass-school-funding-plan

Some Republicans vented about the court. Rep. Marc Rhoades, of Newton, called the justices' demands "ridiculous" — drawing out the word for emphasis — and suggested lawmakers face a moving target to equalize funding that they can never meet.

"You know what that sounds like to me?" Rhoades said. "Socialism."

Kansas is cuckservative as fuck. Lots of regressive theocratic science deniers in the state. The pendulum is probably gonna swing back towards the center (sorry Bernfags, Douglas county isnt gonna single handedly elect anything more extreme than a middle of the road Democrat) soon, everyone is fed up with Brownback and his shit
>>
>>69191076

This is the kind of biased, leftist analysis I was hoping to avoid with this thread.
>>
>>69185544
It's because it isn't conservative economic policy. It's cuckservative ALEC economic policy. Brownback has fucked Kansas harder than Walker has fucked Wisconsin. This is the formula:

>tax cuts for the wealthy and big business
>new spending on behalf of the wealthy and big business
>spending cuts to social welfare programs that the state has made the working and middle classes dependent upon
>act startled when the budget doesn't balance
>act startled when the local economy shits the bed
>lie about everything and blame liberals who haven't held power in years

GOPe OUT!!! TRUMP 2016!!!
>>
>>69191387
>everyone is fed up with Brownback and his shit
Then why did Kansas reelected him? The majority of people like him, his policies, and him holding the Bible high, and then setting it down. Kansas is a mess.

>The take home message is that taxes and government spending are inescapably connected. You cannot cut taxes without cutting spending, and you cannot increase spending without raising taxes. The Kansas tax cut ignored this reality - and some other important variables - which is why it did not work.

Hmm. Would need a historical comparison. Even then could be misleading depending on what metric for measuring unemployment is used with the increase in part-time employment as a result of Obamacare.

Centipede from Kansas here. Brown back is widely disliked here in eastern KS because he is trying to fuck the school system, one of the few good things left about KS. I do think the local economies have been growing and doing much better but the rate seems a little slow. One of the main selling points Kansas has for me is everyone is nice and I think we are the most competent drivers but I may be bias.

Sam brownback is pretty bad at his job.

He was able to approve tax cuts for almost all businesses in Kansas. It's nice, but everyone should know that Kansas would have to grow like crazy to make up tax cut losses. It didn't. Businesses that might be looking around the nation on where to invest next will see that the tax cuts cannot last. It's like making a deal with a business. Telling businesses that they don't have to pay rent lets them know that someday they will and there will be a big fight later on where things have to be sacrificed.

Sam brownback has an effective tool to for reducing spending which is to just stop paying money to departments and let them pick up the pieces and cut themselves down to survive. Unfortunately it doesn't even seem thought out.

He said he would not touch education spending while running again, yet education is now the prime target. And now the supreme court deems his money shifting as unconstitutional.

What bothers me most is they stick their fingers in everything.
Because they don't like the Supreme Court, they have introduced a bill that allows the justices to be impeached.
They took away the "teacher of the year" award away from teachers and established their own hand-selected award.
They made it illegal for professors to identify as professors in newspaper editorials...
They have also been moving money around from school district to school district which makes it a headache to pay teachers that are already in the middle of their one-year contract.
They have moved money out of KDOT to cover other costs instead of figuring out a more meaningful budget.
They also want to skyrocket sin taxes yet half of the population lives near the Missouri border and goes there anyway to buy gas and cigarettes (Missouri has the lowest sin taxes for both). recently they got mad at KU because it self-funded a new building without talking to the administration. Who fucking cares?

It's been an example of what not to do.

Yeah. I have a rich Grandfather-in-law that lives in Gardner. He's a staunch party Republican that hated Brownback. He survived the NATCO strike under Reagan and is some sort of high level air coordinator.

He was a Huckabee supporter, and now backs Ted Cruz.

A Kansas thread! I love these!

Can any anons confirm or deny this?

http://pastebin.com/KZT5wrB9

Situation
>small population
>largely white and christian population
>vote in ultra right wing politicians
>don't want money going to welfare recipients
>don't want to pay taxes
>don't want immigrants
>expects good highways
>expects good education
>expects lots of high paying jobs

What happens:
>income taxes slashed on businesses with no associated spending reductions or alternative revenue sources
>services attempted to be cut (Kansas has always been cutting, we're always red)
>couldn't cut enough
>huge revenue shortages
>raise sales taxes
>reduce funding to schools, hospitals, libraries, museums, farm subsidies, business subsidies (they got the tax break though)
>increase amount of state troopers & police
>"borrow" from highway budget
>citizens moving out of the state (net loss in people last year)
>unemployment rate is up! (because people left?)

It is literally a disaster here
