So it's time for people to really read and UNDERSTAND the INTENT of the 2nd amendment :
“Amendment II: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
The intention was to create "a well regulated militia" because at that time there were few local police forces, no "national guard" so a "well regulated militia" was the only way that the "security of a free state" could be insured. It was never intended that every Tom, Dick or Harry should take it upon themselves, as individuals, to bear arms in defense of the state. Nowhere in the 2nd amendment does it say that we should all have weapons in order to defend ourselves. That's what law and order is all about in a democracy.
