I support abortion in situations of medical necessity. I pair that with all males having reversible sterilization paid for and maintained by the state. Any pregnancies that result from a failure of the sterilization are eligible for aborting.

Since we dont legally recognize the unborn as humans yet, it should legally be up to the mother what happens to the unborn, same as its entirely up to her if she wants breast implants or liposuction.

Knocked up a girlfriend when I was 19. She was 24. I said I'd keep it but it was her choice. Helped her pay for it. BTW, they don't ask permission or inform the father.
She and I would not have been good parents at the time, but we would have a kid now. I regret not only that one event, but many of my life choices. I was very immature and only wanted casual sex. I now treat sex as the risky behavior it is. If I could restart life, I would go down the traditional route. I hope to have kids in the future and raise them well. I don't know if abortion is murder, but it is bad.
As far as public policy, I think we need to encourage family values. Getting rid of welfare entirely would help discourage casual sex and encourage responsibility, but would also increase abortion rates.
I honestly don't think there's a hard line where some cells become a person. I don't know what the policy should be. But I know when I told my dad about it, his face dropped like I've never seen. And he's liberal and pro-abortion in theory.
Abortion is probably a net positive for society, but so would be eugenics or even genocides, which are still immoral.
