Everyone has different "myths" when it comes to Mushrooming. My dad always said that they're more likely to grow around alder trees.
My grandfather would walk ravines and look up the hillsides at last years leaf litter, morels will push it up in heavy forested areas and make a break you can spot easier. This works well for autumn as well, going after Beefies and Ladies.
I mostly have luck in the bottoms. Once we get into spring and the temperature gets up to 60 steady I'll go out to the wooded areas along the flood plain on the Missouri. I usually get two or three shopling bags full.
I like to sweet pickle mine with a ton of onion and carrot slivers.
I've recently taken up writing, infact I intend on writing a novel within the year.
To me its a good hobby, it exercisers my brain by continually learning proper spelling and sentence structure.
Only down side to this though is im locked away by myself most of the time.

>We have virtually no dangerous animals here, besides the occasional brown bear (never seen one) and like a tiny amount of inbred wolves (never seen one), while in America, you have pumas, grizzly bears, coyotes, healthy wolves, and you even have venomous snakes.
We have black bears and coyote and bobcat and cougar where I live but they don't tend to get near people. We're primarily a farming and ranching area and people tend to shoot at animals like that if they become pests here no matter what the law might say. I often come within a couple feet of the deer and turkeys, they are totally fearless except during hunting season. I do backpack in the Yellowstone yearly and have had close encounters with every kind of animal that lives there but that's different.
I have seen elk in the woods too in my area but I keep my distance. I'm not afraid of a deer (keep a 1911 or something more powerful on me in the woods) but an elk could stomp you even after you shoot its guts apart.

Also consider this: many people tolerate some mushrooms that others will vomit up, people frequently consume seriously undercooked or even raw shrooms leading to intestinal upset, and people often drink alcohol while eating mushrooms, which can lead to gastro-intestinal distress as well.
Many mushroom "poisonings" are just people eating too many shrooms, or drinking liquor with shrooms that they haven't had before, or over-indulging in drink and then throwing up chunks of mushrooms and thinking "oh golly those are what did it."
There are very few REALLY poisonous mushrooms that are going to really kill you.

The three on the bottom left looked like they had a distinct free cap structure. As I said it's tough to know without looking at them in person, but it's easy to spot the false ones, not all of which are even poisonous.
