Europe is not atheist. Most of the ones welcoming the Muslims are in fact friendly Christians who believe they can coexist. Atheists are a fractional (<0.1%) minority in pretty much every single country except China.

Not in the present, wishy-washy version.

Luke 19:27:
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

As well as Matthew 10:34:
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Deuteronomy 17:
2 If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant,
3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;
4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel:
5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

I must say, it's really convenient how all these advances in theoretical physics are coming right in time as people are growing atheist in greater numbers.
People are claiming that science and technology can adequately explain our universe while quantum physical phenomena fuck with our brains so hard that our greatest physicists are content with thinking that our existence is a virtual simulation.
Nay, convenient isn't the right word for it. It's poetic justice.

Christianity played a vital role in ending slavery in Europe. If this never happened there's a good chance that it would have continued as in the middle east and asia, thereby removing incentive to replace labor with capital.

Athiests always blame Christianity for stopping progress, but if it never existed we would probably be centuries behind where we are now.

Thinking that there might be aliens doesn't mean you'll act like they do and are looking at you.
Of course, such weirdos exist.
>>
>>69063714
Your entire argument falls apart once you remove the base premise that it's founded on. Which is that you think people don't believe in God because they can't see him.

People wouldn't believe in God even if you could see him. Besides, sight has nothing to do with it. Religion is faith based. Faith has nothing to back it up, but selfish desire.

A belief in God only works if the person believing has selfish desires. Guess what's great for religion? Pretty much every Human has selfish desires.

You think a benevolent God would want a bunch of people following him for selfish reasons only? I don't think so.

I also don't think it's possible to have faith for a reason that isn't selfish.

Me and God have an understanding.

Have you ever had that intense debate with a Christian who has never encountered an atheist before? What's one of the first things that come out of their mouths?

>Well if God doesn't exist, then what is the point of morality if there are no consequences for your actions?

The fact that they immediately respond to the notion that there isn't some ethereal superbeing hiding behind the curtains of reality waiting for the "bad people" to die so he can toss them in a bonfire for all eternity and they immediately view it as a justification to abandon their own sense of morality should alarm you.

The ancients weren't idiots. They built this elaborate psychological trap from the ground up. Don't pull these people out of the hole forcibly. They're there for a reason.
>>
>>69064399
Yep. And not just Jesus, but a bunch of monks, yogis, rabbis, etc. who are reputed with having supernatural powers.

Science is based on forming falsifiable hypotheses and gathering evidence. Religion doesn't fall into this dynamic. While this does make it possible for them to coexist (By compartmentalizing religion into essentially meaningless, non-empirical claims and using it to prop up slave morality) it does mean anyone who is religion hasn't understood the tenets of scientific reasoning on a deep level.

Not that all atheists have either. There are a millions bad ways to arrive at a correct conclusion.

The miasma theory of disease actually does attribute filth with sickness, in a direct way that is likely more useful in the pre-industrial era than germ theory (Also consider many diseases, like the plague, or cholera, had indirect contamination methods, so the idea of germs isn't always the most obvious explanation).

>>69065863
At some point, though, you approach subjects that you cannot really study, yet the questions of "why is this happening" still remain, like with the Big Bang. At some point science and philosophy meet.
>>
>>69061250
Nice try shitposter, Luke 19:27 was apart of a parable, Matthew 10:34 spoke about how families would tear apart because of jewish tradition and anything from the Old Testament must be taken with a grain of salt.
>>
>>69067311
Maybe philosophy, but religions are ancient, and don't even approach complex issues like the Big Bang reasonably accurately because they were created before the necessary scientific background existed.

Religions are reasonable for their time, but if we needed a religion of the modern age it would be necessary to make a new one. At some point adding ad-hoc adjustment to something old just doesn't work anymore.
>>
>>69067821
I'd disagree. Religions have evolved alongside us throughout time and adjust to whats required of them. As a species, we continue to learn more about the universe and our place in it, but the fundamental question of why we're here will always stay with us. Being religious doesn't necessarily mean you're a bad scientist. It just means that you have accepted the possibility of a driving force behind the mysteries we have yet to understand or have evidence for. If something proves that wrong, thats fine, but you can never truly rule out that there isn't some type of creator pulling the strings.
>>
>>69069778
It's much more strong than accepting the possibility of an intelligence driving force though, it's accepting it as true.

Consider belief as probabilistic, rather than dual. If I propose to you a hypothesis like "Plant 3 of the 97498739423th closest solar system to earth contains life", you have no positive or negative evidence pertaining to this planet IN PARTICULAR. Instead, you have the observation that life seems fairly rare and the odds any random planet (And the planet I'm singling out seems pretty random) contains life is low enough that you disbelieve me. That's what's called your "Prior", it's essentially the probability you assign to something before taking into account a piece of evidence. You might say "I have no evidence for or against life on this planet, so I have no belief one way or the other", but when you think probabilistically, the probability of life you would give would probably be pretty low (Sub 1%).

The problem with religions is they are optimized as stories, not as truthful statements about the world. As a result, they have lots of precise details, which are unlikely to all (Or even mostly) be true. An atheist essentially says "Every conception of god I've seen is vanishingly unlikely, and there's no evidence supporting them, so I have a low (Potentially as high as 10%, often much lower) probability of one existing".

You're right you can never rule out the probability of god, but then, you can never rule out the probability of ANYTHING (i.e. the problem of induction) (Caveat: Non-tautologies). If belief is to mean something, it must be a RELATIVE assessment, not an absolute one. Atheists disbelieve just like you probably disbelieve in flat-earthism or something, you haven't ruled it out entirely but it's not looking good.
